2019 Wooden Legacy Schedule Set For Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA - Game matchups and start times for the 2019 Wooden Legacy were released on Thursday, including matchups and official tipoff times for all 12 games. The Wooden Legacy will be held Thanksgiving Weekend (November 28 and 29, and December 1) at Anaheim Arena in Anaheim, Calif.

The University of Pennsylvania, which is making its Wooden Legacy debut, will open play in the eight-team tournament with the University of Central Florida (UCF) on Thanksgiving Day at 5:30 p.m. PST (8:30 EST) on ESPNU. The Knights went 24-9 last year including a 13-5 mark in the American Athletic Conference, and they advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where they lost to top-seeded Duke, 77-76. This will mark Penn's third meeting with UCF, the others coming in 2008 (an 81-64 UCF win) and 2016 (a 58-40 Penn victory).

A first-round loss to UCF will move the Quakers into the loser's bracket, in which case they would play their second game on Friday, Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. PST (9 p.m. EST) on ESPNews. A win over UCF, however, moves the Quakers into the winner's bracket in which case their second game would take place that same night at 8:30 p.m. (11:30 EST) on ESPN2.

What is guaranteed is Penn's second-round opponent: either Arizona or Pepperdine. A traditional national power, the Wildcats went 17-15 last year including an 8-10 mark in the Pac-12 Conference. Penn and Arizona have met once before, in 1996, the Wildcats rolling to a 93-51 win in Tucson, Ariz. The Waves, meanwhile, went 16-18 last year that included a 6-10 mark in West Coast Conference play before they advanced all the way to the WCC Tournament championship game. Penn and Pepperdine have never met in men's basketball.

The other half of the bracket features tournament host Long Beach State, Providence, Wake Forest, and the College of Charleston. Penn will face one of those teams on Sunday, Dec. 1.

Past Anaheim Classic/Wooden Legacy winners were USC (2007), Wake Forest (2008), West Virginia (2009), UNLV (2010), Saint Louis (2011), Cal (2012), San Diego State (2013), Washington (2014), Michigan State (2015), UCLA (2016), Washington State (2017), and Seton Hall (2018).

TV
Owned and operated by ESPN Events, all 12 games of the 2019 Wooden Legacy will air on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPNews. They will also be available on the ESPN App.
