PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's John R. Rockwell Head Coach of Men's Basketball,
Steve Donahue, has announced his recruiting class for the upcoming 2019-20 season. Five young men—Jonah Charles, Jordan Dingle, Max Lorca-Lloyd, Max Martz, and Lucas Monroe—will join the Quakers' men's basketball roster this season as freshmen.
"We're always excited when we officially bring in the next class of freshmen," said Donahue, who will be in his fifth season as the Quakers' head coach in 2019-20. "I believe these five individuals will have an extra special impact on our program. Each of these guys committed to the admissions process at Penn at a very early stage, which shows how excited each of
them are to become Quakers. Their early buy-in has allowed us to get to know them better than we typically know most guys when they set foot on campus. I think all five guys love the game of basketball and will continue to embrace our gritty mindset.
"Looking at them individually, Jonah seems to have all of the tools that will make him a productive player in our offense. Jordan will come in and immediately be the strongest kid on our team and plays with great zeal. Max Lorca-Lloyd has a chance to be one of the most athletically gifted players in our league. Max Martz has a leader's mentality and plays with a tremendous amount of grit and hustle. And Lucas possesses many important basketball qualities that help players thrive in today's game."
Penn finished the 2018-19 season with a 19-12 overall record and won its first Big 5 title since 2001-02 with a perfect 4-0 record against defending NCAA champion Villanova, La Salle, Saint Joseph's and Temple. It marked just the program's second 4-0 record in Big 5 play since the 1973-74 season—the other one coming in 2001-02—and it was Penn's 13th Big 5 title overall. In Ivy League play, the Quakers were unable to defend their regular-season and Tournament championships from the 2017-18 season, going 7-7 and tying for fourth place during the regular season and then falling to Harvard in the semifinal round of the Ivy Tourney.
