PHILADELPHIA – The 2019 season will be the 143rd for the University of Pennsylvania football team and the 125th spent at historic Franklin Field. The Quakers will set out on a 10-game slate which starts with a road game at Delaware and ends with a rivalry game with Princeton on November 23 at America's oldest and most historic college football venue.
Â
"The 2019 season will be another special one in the history of the Penn Football program," said George A. Munger Head Coach of Football
Ray Priore. "We are proud of our history as an innovator and leader in the sport of college football and we look forward to celebrating the 125th season of football at Franklin Field, the 150th year of college football, and what we hope is a memorable year for the Red and Blue and all of our fans."
Â
The season opens on September 21 in Newark against Delaware. The Quakers and Blue Hens have not met since 1983, and have only met five times previously. Overall, the two FCS stalwarts have combined for 34 conference championships.
Â
The Quakers will also play at Lafayette (September 28) and against Sacred Heart (October 12) in nonconference games. Penn and Lafayette have met 90 times prior in a series that started in 1882, but the two teams have not played since 2013. Last season was the first-ever meeting between Penn and Sacred Heart – Penn escaping with a 31-27 win following a
Ryan Glover TD pass with 1:19 remaining.
Â
Ivy League play opens on October 5 with Dartmouth visiting Philly for the official celebration of the 125th season of Franklin Field. The last time Penn waited until October for its first home game was 2015 – a season which ended in an Ivy League championship to cap
Ray Priore's first season as head coach.
Â
Other home Ivy League games for the Quakers include visits from Brown (November 2), Cornell (Homecoming on November 9) and the season finale against Princeton (November 23).
Â
Penn will hit the road for Ivy games at Columbia (October 19), Yale (October (26) and Harvard (November 16).
