#12 Women's Lacrosse Opens Ivy Tournament vs. Dartmouth

PHILADELPHIA - Earning the three seed in the 2019 Ivy League Tournament, the University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse teams will open postseason play on Friday, May 3, set to battle second-seeded Dartmouth at 2 p.m. in New York, N.Y.

Series History
Penn and Dartmouth have faced off 44 times in program history, with the Big Green holding a slim 24-20 advantage in the all-time series. The Big Green won their first game over Penn at Franklin Field since 2012 earlier this season, breaking a three-game win streak overall for the Quakers. Penn has faced Dartmouth four times in the Ivy League Tournament, going 3-1 against the Big Green, including a 16-14 victory in last year's semifinal matchup at Princeton.

Earlier this year, Penn held a 6-4 lead at halftime over the Big Green, but was unable to hold off an energetic Dartmouth rally in the second half, including an 8-1 run from the visitors, ultimately falling 15-11.

A Perfect Ten
Clinching their spot in the 2019 Ivy League Tournament two weekends ago, the Quakers are the only team in the conference to qualify to for all 10 possible Ivy League Tournaments since their inception in 2010. Penn has won three tournament titles.

Tournament History
The Quakers are 10-6 all-time in the Ivy League Tournament, advancing past the semifinals in seven of their previous nine trips. Penn's last Ivy League Tournament title came in 2014, with wins over Harvard and Princeton.

Midfielder of the Year
Junior Erin Barry was named the 2019 Ivy League Midfielder of the Year earlier this week, leading a group of eight All-Ivy honorees for the Quakers. Her offensive numbers include 28 goals and five assists for 33 points, ranking third on the team. She also ranks third on the team with 32 draw controls. Barry hit several milestones in 2019, surpassing 100 career goals, ground balls and draw controls as a junior. Barry picked up 28 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers, displaying her all-around skill on the field for the Red and Blue.

Rosenzweig Makes the Cut
For the second-straight year, junior attacker Gabby Rosenzweig has been named one of 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Award, honoring the best player in college lacrosse. Rosenzweig leads the Quakers in scoring with 30 goals and 49 assists for 79 points. Currently averaging 5.27 points per game, that mark is good for first in Penn single-season history. Her average of 3.27 assists per game ranks third in the country and her season total of 30 goals is second-most on the squad. Rosenzweig is one of just five players in program history to eclipse 200 career points, ranking fourth all-time with 206.

McMahon on the Rise
Freshman Michaela McMahon has played all 15 games for the Quakers this season, scoring in all but two games on the year, including a season-high four at Columbia. The rookie earned honorable mention All-Ivy accolades

Ball-Magnet Bosco
After collecting 19 ground balls last year, sophomore Abby Bosco has asserted herself on the field for Penn, leading the team with 46 ground balls, ranking second in the Ivy League and ranking 19th nationally with an average of 3.07 pick ups per game. Her total of 46 is also good for second-most in Penn single-season history. Defensively, she's tied for the team lead with 19 caused turnovers, while scoring 11 goals and earning 30 draw controls, fourth-most of any Quaker. Against Dartmouth, Bosco tallied eight ground ball pickups, the most for a Penn player since Emma Spiro against Brown in 2008. Bosco was named second-team All-Ivy.

Decker Delivers
After scoring six goals in her first 11 games on the year, sophomore Elyse Decker has ramped up her offensive production of late, scoring nine goals in the last four games for the Quakers, including a season-best three against Princeton.

Kibler on the Draw
A second-team All-Ivy selection, Chelsea Kibler's 57 controlled draws currently lead the team and rank seventh in the Ivy League, good for third-most in single-season history at Penn.

Record-Breaking Katy
Senior captain Katy Junior will leave behind a legacy of excellence as a member of Penn's defensive unit. Named first-team All-Ivy for the second time in her career, Junior's career total of 130 ground balls are the most in the modern-era of Penn women's lacrosse, while her total of 96 caused turnovers is second most.

RPI Watch
Penn is slotted 17th in the latest NCAA RPI, one of three Ivy League squads in the top-20.

Aye, Aye Captain(s)!
Senior defenders Katy Junior and Lauren O'Mara have been tabbed as captains for the 2019 campaign of Penn women's lacrosse.

Dissecting Dartmouth
Finishing the regular season tied for the Ivy League championship, Dartmouth is ranked 18th nationally entering the postseason at 11-4 overall, going 6-1 in conference play with its only loss to Princeton. The Big Green have won four straight after their loss to the Tigers and 10 of their last 11 overall. Led by Ivy League Co-Coach of the Year Danielle Spencer, Dartmouth picked up a school record eight All-Ivy picks, including first-team nods for Kathryn Giroux, Elizabeth Mastrio and Kierra Sweeney. Giroux and Dartmouth have been masterful on the draw this season, as Giroux ranks third nationally, averaging 9.13 draws controlled per game, while Dartmouth's DC percentage of over 62 percent is fourth in the country.
