Women's Tennis Looks to Rebound at Harvard, Dartmouth

PHILADELPHIA – Looking to get back on track, the University of Pennsylvania women's tennis hits the road this weekend to battle Harvard and Dartmouth on Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7.

Penn began its Ivy League campaign last week, but fell to Princeton in a tight 4-3 result, making this upcoming road trip all the more important.

DOMINATING DOUBLES
For the seventh consecutive match, Penn won two doubles matches against Princeton and claimed the critical doubles point. This spring, the Quakers' pairs are 29-9 in doubles, led by Marta Kowalska and Marija Curnic at the top spot. Kowalska and Curnic enter the weekend as the 47th-ranked pair in the nation, sporting a 10-3 record in 2019 and 18-6 throughout the entire academic year. Additionally, Iuliia Bryzgalova and OJ Singh are 11-0 since the turn of the calendar, emphatically providing a stiff one-two punch for the Quakers.

BRYZGALOVA'S BRILLIANCE
Freshman Iuliia Bryzgalova improved her record to 11-1 in 2019 after an absolutely dominating performance over Princeton's No. 1 Stephanie Schrage, 6-0, 6-1. Entering the Princeton match, Bryzgalova was ranked No. 66, but somehow dropped to No. 92, where she currently stands, after her impressive win.

PREVIEWING HARVARD
The Crimson are 13-5 and 1-0 in the Ivy League its 4-0 dismantling of Dartmouth last weekend. Penn is just 14-29 all-time against Harvard, but picked up a big win earlier this season in the first round of the ECAC Championship. The Quakers defeated the Crimson 4-1 behind victories from Bryzgalova, Curnic and Ashley Zhu, in addition to the doubles point.

PREVIEWING DARTMOUTH
Penn holds the all-time edge over the Big Green, leading the series 23-17 but fell in last year's meeting, 6-1. This year, Dartmouth is just 3-12 with that one loss to Harvard in Ivy League play. The Big Green hosts Princeton on Saturday before Penn on Sunday.
