Barry Named Ivy League Midfielder of the Year, Leads Eight WLAX All-Ivy

PHILADELPHIA - A true midfielder in every sense of the word, Erin Barry's work for the University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team has earned her Ivy League Midfielder of the Year honors, headlining a group of nine All-Ivy selections from the conference office for the Red and Blue.

Barry's selection as Midfielder of the Year is the third all-time for Penn since the inception of the award in 2013, joining Shannon Mangini in 2013 and Alex Condon in 2017. Penn has won at least one yearly award every year in that span.

Barry was one of two unanimous first-team All-Ivy selections for the Quakers, joined by fellow junior Gabby Rosenzweig. Also named to the first-team were attacker Zoe Belodeau and senior captain and defender, Katy Junior.

Second-team honorees for Penn included Chelsea Kibler, Mikaila Cheeseman and Abby Bosco, while freshman Michaela McMahon rounded out the conference-wide postseason honors for the Quakers as an honorable mention selection.

Notes to Know...
  • Since the addition of yearly Ivy League positional awards (Attacker, Midfielder, Defender) in 2013, Penn is tied for the most honorees in the conference with eight.
  • Barry is Penn's third Ivy League Midfielder of the Year, as the Quakers boast more award winners in that category than any other program.
  • Penn's four first-team All-Ivy honorees rank second-most in program history as the Quakers have tallied four first-teamers in two-straight years.
  • Karin Corbett has now coached 49 first-team All-Ivy players in her 20 years at Penn.
  • Zoe Belodeau is the first player in program history to earn first-team All-Ivy status each of her first two years with the Red and Blue.
Erin Barry - 2019 Ivy League Midfielder of the Year; Unanimous First-Team All-Ivy
Now a first-team selection in back-to-back seasons, Barry commanded both ends of the field for the Quakers as a midfielder, excelling both in the attack and the defense. Her offensive numbers include 28 goals and five assists for 33 points, ranking third on the team. She also ranks third on the team with 32 draw controls. Barry hit several milestones in 2019, surpassing 100 career goals, ground balls and draw controls as a junior. Barry picked up 28 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers, displaying her all-around skill on the field for the Red and Blue.

Gabby Rosenzweig - Unanimous First-Team All-Ivy
One of 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton award, Rosenzweig has now picked up first-team All-Ivy honors in back-to-back seasons after leading both the Quakers and the Ivy League in points this season with 79. Currently averaging 5.27 points per game, that mark is good for first in Penn single-season history. Much of Rosenzweig's offensive success is due to to her ability to set plays up, oftentimes behind the net, owning 49 assists on the year, ranking second most in one season by a Quaker. Her average of 3.27 assists per game ranks third in the country and her season total of 30 goals is second-most on the squad. Rosenzweig is one of just five players in program history to eclipse 200 career points, ranking fourth all-time with 206.

Zoe Belodeau - First-Team All-Ivy
Belodeau repeats as a first-team All-Ivy member after being the first freshman in program history to earn such status last year. Instrumental on both the draw and attack, Belodeau leads the Quakers with 34 goals, notching 13 assists for a total of 47 points. Her 48 draw controls are second on the team, 10th in the Ivy League and eighth in single-season history. Known as a big-moment playmaker, Belodeau scored the game-winning goal in Penn's one-goal wins over #21 Georgetown, #15 Duke and Cornell.

Katy Junior - First-Team All-Ivy
Rounding out her career as a three-time All-Ivy award winner, including two mentions on the first-team, Junior has served as a team captain and an anchor of the defense for the Quakers in 2019. Often matching up with the opposition's top attacker, Junior has picked up 24 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers this season. Her career total of 130 ground balls are the most in the modern-era of Penn women's lacrosse, while her total of 96 caused turnovers is second.

Chelsea Kibler - Second-Team All-Ivy
Earning All-Ivy recognition for the first time in her career, Kibler has served as Penn's leader on the draw team, while being a consistent playmaker on defense for the Quakers. Her 57 draw controls are most on the team and seventh in the Ivy League, good for third-most in single season history at Penn. She's tied for the team lead with 19 caused turnovers, while picking up 24 ground balls.

Abby Bosco - Second-Team All-Ivy
Bosco has featured a standout sophomore season for the Quakers, complementing Penn's strong midfield attack. She leads the team with 46 ground balls, ranking second in the Ivy League and ranking 19th nationally with an average of 3.07 pick ups per game. Her total of 46 is also good for second-most in Penn single-season history. Defensively, she's tied for the team lead with 19 caused turnovers, while scoring 11 goals and earning 30 draw controls, fourth-most of any Quaker.

Mikaila Cheeseman - Second-Team All-Ivy
Starting all 15 games in goal, Cheeseman earns All-Ivy status for the second-straight year. Her save percentage of .467 ranks second in the Ivy League among goalies that played every game, while her 9.98 goals against average is first in the conference and 24th nationally.

Michaela McMahon - Honorable Mention All-Ivy
Playing a key role as a freshman, McMahon started in 10 games for the Red and Blue, ranking fifth on the team with 21 goals, matched with three assists for 24 points. A true midfielder, McMahon collected 19 ground balls, causing seven turnovers, while earning the draw 16 times for Penn.
