PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team closed out its regular season in fashion with a 4-0 shutout of Brown on Sunday at Hamlin Tennis Center, capping a five-match win streak – all in Ivy League action.
The Quakers began the match the exact way they have for the past 14 matches: winning doubles. For the 14th straight match, Penn earned the doubles point, this time thanks to two dominating wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Marta Kowalska and Marija Curnic cruised to a comfortable 6-1 win, finishing just before Iuliia Bryzgalova and OJ Singh, who won 6-2.
Kowalska and Curnic, the 51st-ranked pair in the nation, moved to 13-4 in dual matches this season and 4-1 in the Ivies while Bryzgalova and Singh closed the season out at 16-1 and also 5-1 in league matches.
In singles, Bryzgalova won easily at No. 1, winning 6-1, 6-2 and moving to 15-1 in the spring and 5-0 in the Ivies. In total, the freshman sports a 28-3 mark during her rookie campaign. Mimi Levine was the next Quaker to secure a win, battling to a 6-3, 6-3 win, leaving just one court from the match win. Then, on Senior Day, Singh clinched the final point with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 decision to shut out Brown.
