PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team ended its season on a high note as it swept the final Ivy weekend. The Quakers defeated Brown, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon after taking down Yale the day before.
How it Happened
Unlike Saturday, Penn got off to a fast start. The duo of
Kevin Zhu and
Dmitry Shatalin had an impressive performance at No. 2 doubles, winning, 6-1 to give the Red and Blue the early lead.
Kyle Mautner and
Edoardo Graziani clinched the doubles point after winning, 6-3 at Penn's top doubles spot.
Heading into singles with a 1-0 lead, the Quakers looked to carry their momentum from doubles play.
Kyle Mautner and
Dmitry Shatalin each won in straight sets. Mautner lost just three games total while Shatalin earned a pair of breaks to win 6-3, 6-3. Graziani and Zhu each fell short at No. 2 and No. 3 as Brown pulled back within one match.
That's as close as the Bears would get as
Max Cancilla won handily at No. 6 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match and give Quakers their second Ivy League win in a row to close out the season.
What's Next
The Quakers wrapped up their season this weekend with back-to-back wins in Ivy League play. Earlier this year, Penn recorded their first ECAC Championship since 2006-07 this season and earned their highest ITA ranking at No. 23.
