Heavies Take Second Behind Top-Ranked Yale in Blackwell Cup

PHILADELPHIA – Rowing against a fair headwind and with some choppy Schuylkill River water, the University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew took second out of three boats in the race for the Blackwell Cup on Saturday. The Quakers won a two-boat race at the Varsity 4 level.
 
Varsity 8+
The top-ranked crew in the country, Yale eased its way to victory in the Blackwell Cup race with a winning time of 5:44.9 over the Schuylkill's 2,000-meter course. Penn was able to nip Columbia for second place, the Quakers finishing in 6:01.4 and the Lions in 6:01.8.
 
Second Varsity 8+
Yale won this race handily, as well, clocking 6:07.6 for the victory. Columbia took second, nearly 12 seconds behind the Bulldogs (6:19.4), while Penn was third in 6:22.3.
 
Varsity 4+
Penn easily defeated Columbia in this race, the Quakers clocking 7:00.6 and the Lions finishing in 7:18.7.

Up Next
Penn will be up in Boston next Saturday, racing on the Charles River against Harvard and Navy. The Adams Cup will be on the line in the Varsity Eights race.
