PHILADELPHIA -- Freshman
Sam Handley was named to the USILA National Team Of The Week, adding to a growing list of accomplishments during his rookie campaign.
Handley scored six goals in No. 5 Penn's 26-13 win at Harvard last weekend, helping the Quakers clinch their first Ivy League championship since 1988.
With his six goals, Handley increased his point total in 2019 to 44, establishing a new program record for points by a freshman. He surpassed the previous mark of 42 set in 1995 by
John Ward.
Handley's effort earned him Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth consecutive week -- just the second Ivy Leaguer since the award was first presented in 1988 to win it four straight weeks and the first since 1999.
A Tewaaraton Award Watch List candidate, Handley leads the Quakers with his 44 points and ranks No. 2 in the country among freshmen in points per game (4.4) and assists per game (2.1).
Penn is home one final time in the regular season, hosting Dartmouth for Senior Day on Saturday. Opening faceoff with the Big Green is set for 1 p.m. at Franklin Field.
