Women's Basketball Vies For Ivy Title at Yale, Brown

PHILADELPHIA - 17 weeks later, the end of the regular season is upon us. The University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team has put itself in a position to win a championship, with games at Yale and Brown the only thing separating the Quakers from the Ivy League crown. At 20-5 overall and 10-2 in the Ancient Eight, Penn will tipoff both of the weekend's games at 6 p.m. on ESPN+, with postseason play on the horizon.

In the Series vs. Yale: 84th Meeting
The Quakers are 44-39 in 83 meetings against the Bulldogs and have won three straight in the series after sweeping both games last year and earning a six-point win at The Palestra in February. Penn is 10-1 in its last 11 meetings with Yale, dating back to 2014. Last year, the Red and Blue notched a 69-54 win in New Haven.

In the Series vs. Brown: 85th Meeting
Penn has controlled the series with the Bears for the last seven years, with 15-straight victories dating back to 2012 to improve its all-time lead to 49-35. Coach McLaughlin is 17-3 against Brown, including a dominant 83-43 win in Philadelphia in February. Last year, the Quakers posted their largest win ever at the Pizzitola Sports Center, defeating the Bears 88-55.

Last Time Out: W, 56-52 vs. Dartmouth (March 2, 2019)
   -   The Quakers found a way to sneak past the Big Green on Senior Night last weekend behind power from their post players, as Princess Aghayere and Eleah Parker combined for 41 of Penn's 56 points.
   -   Penn earned the weekend sweep at home after defeating Harvard in overtime last Friday.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Yale enters the weekend teetering on the edge of qualification for the Ivy League Tournament, at 16-11 overall and 6-6 in the Ivy League. The Bulldogs have been strong at home with a 7-1 record inside John J. Lee Amphitheater. Junior guard Roxy Barahman leads both the team and conference in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game.

Scouting the Bears
Brown is on an 11-game slide entering the weekend, with a Friday matchup with Princeton looming before Penn visits Providence. The Bears feature two of the top-four scorers in the Ivy League in Justine Gaziano (18.3 ppg) and Shayna Mehta (16.1 ppg), while the Bears rank third in the conference in scoring. Conversely, Brown is last in the league, allowing 78.1 ppg.

20-Win Seasons
Penn has now captured a 20-win season for the sixth-straight year and seventh all-time.

Ivy League Success
Last season marked the fifth-straight year that Penn won 11 or more Ivy League games. Prior to that, Penn had won 11 or more Ivy League games only twice in its entire history.

Clinched!
With last weekend's overtime win over Harvard, the Quakers clinched their spot in the 2019 Ivy League Tournament. Entering this weekend, Penn can finish no worse than second place.

Brick Wall
Opponents have faced a tough task when going inside to face Parker, as the sophomore ranks second nationally, averaging 3.2 blocks per game. Her 81 blocks so far this season individually would rank her over 141 TEAMS in block totals and are fifth-most in a season in program history.

All About the Defense
Penn's calling card this season has undoubtedly been defense, as the Quakers rank seventh nationally, allowing just 53.6 points per game. In games against Maine, La Salle, Iona and Drexel, Penn held held four-straight opponents to 47 points or less for the first time since 1975.

Penn has won 68 of its last 69 games when holding opponents to 49-points or less.

Streaking Sterba
Sterba has been Penn's most lethal 3-point shooter this season, with 57 makes from deep on the year. Sterba has hit at least two 3's in 18 games and at least three in 10, including a career-best 5-for-7 mark at Princeton, earning both Ivy League and USBWA National Player of the Week honors with 21 points to defeat the Tigers.

Efficiently Eleah
Reigning Ivy League and Big 5 Rookie of the Year hasn't skipped a beat her sophomore season, leading the team in points (14.7), rebounds (8.7) and blocks (3.2) per game. Additionally her blocks per game rank second nationally, and her field goal percentage of 50.5 percent is first in the Ivy League. Parker has scored in double figures in 21 straight games and owns eight double-doubles this season.

What's Next?
Postseason play begins for the Red and Blue next weekend, as Penn will return to New Haven, Conn. for the 2019 Ivy League Women's Basketball Tournament presented by TIAA.
