PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Big 5 has announced its weekly award winners in men's basketball, and University of Pennsylvania junior forward
AJ Brodeur was named co-Player of the Week along with Temple's Shizz Alston, Jr. This marks the third time Brodeur has been honored this season by the Big 5; he is one of five different Quakers players to be a Big 5 Player of the Week this season.
Brodeur's honor comes on the heels of another big weekend, this time at Harvard and Dartmouth. Brodeur led the Quakers in scoring in both games, dropping 24 on the Crimson on Friday and then 19 in a win over the Big Green on Saturday. He also had 13 rebounds on Saturday for his ninth double-double this season and his 18th at Penn.
Brodeur shot 19-of-33 (57.6 percent) from the field on the weekend, knocking down three of his four three-point shots in the process. He also had five assists on the weekend—pushing him above 100 for the season—as well as two blocked shots and a steal.
Brodeur enters this weekend's home games with Yale and Brown on a 22-game streak of double-figure scoring games, averaging 18.5 points during this run. The junior has 1,298 career points which puts him in 18th place on Penn's all-time scoring list, and his 145 career blocked shots are second all-time.
Penn is 17-11 overall and 5-7 in Ivy League play, with its final two games taking place this weekend on Macquarie Court at The Palestra. The Quakers are still alive for the fourth and final spot in the Ivy League Tournament as they get ready to face Yale on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Brown on Saturday at 6 p.m.
