#6 Women's Lacrosse Visits #5 Northwestern Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - Another weekend featuring two ranked teams for the No. 6 University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team, as the Quakers are set for their longest road trip of the season, traveling west to face fifth-ranked Northwestern on Sunday, March 31 at 2 p.m. EST.

Series History
The Quakers have faced off against the Wildcats 18 times in program history, with 17 of those meetings coming since 2005 with Head Coach Karin Corbett. Penn is 4-14 against Northwestern, having faced off against NU each of the last 14 seasons, but the Quakers have tallied wins in two of the last three years, including a 10-7 victory in Evanston in 2017. That win was Penn's first ever at Northwestern. Penn has faced off against Northwestern three times prior in the NCAA Tournament, tied for the most games against a single opponent in postseason play for the Red and Blue.

Clutch Quakers
The Quakers have already won four games this year by a single goal, highlighting their ability to make plays in the final seconds when it matters the most. The four one-goal wins are the most for Penn since winning four games by a single goal in 2016, when the Quakers advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Red and Blue have leaned on their reliable playmakers in those situations, as Zoe Belodeau recorded the game-winning goal against both #21 Georgetown and #15 Duke, while scoring the game's last two as Penn held on to defeat Cornell, 11-10. Defensively, Katy Junior has stepped up, intercepting a pass to lead to Penn's game-winning score in overtime at #17 Johns Hopkins, while Mikaila Cheeseman stopped a game-tying shot with 10 seconds left to preserve an 8-7 win over the Hoyas.

Keepin' It 100
Junior midfielder Erin Barry has eclipsed the 100 mark in both ground balls and draw controls this season. She is the first in the Karin Corbett-era to do so, now owning 114 draw controls and 105 ground balls.

Strength vs. Strength
This weekend's matchup will pit the nation's top scoring offense in Northwestern against one of the nation's best scoring defenses in Penn, as the Quakers rank eighth nationally, allowing only 8.11 goals per game and featuring a team save percentage of .541, good for third in the country.

Ball Stoppin'
Mikaila Cheeseman has featured an impressive success rate in goal for the Red and Blue, ranking fourth in the nation with a .533 save percentage. The junior has been named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week twice this season, while earning IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week following Penn's 2-0 week over Rutgers and Yale.

Against Ranked Foes
Penn is 3-1 on the year against ranked opponents, with wins over #17 Johns Hopkins, #21 Georgetown and #15 Duke, with its lone loss coming to #2 Maryland. Coach Corbett has recorded 55 wins over ranked teams in her time with the Quakers.

Lending a Helping Hand
One of Penn's catalysts on offense this season has been through the assist-making prowess of junior Gabby Rosenzweig. The New York native leads the team with 29 assists (the next closest has nine) and ranks fifth nationally, averaging 3.22 assists per game.

Starting Stadler
Freshman attacker Taylyn Stadler has made an immediate impact this season for the Red and Blue, starting all nine games and scoring in eight of them. In fact, the Quakers are 8-0 when Stadler scores a goal. The rookie ranks fourth on the team with 11 scores, including a season-high three at Rutgers.

Good Times in Overtime
Penn has won five of its last six games that have ventured past regulation, including an 11-10 victory earlier this year at #17 Johns Hopkins. Penn's only loss in that time frame? A 12-11 setback to Northwestern last year on Franklin Field.

Three Quakers on Tewaaraton Watch List
Erin Barry, Zoe Belodeau and Gabby Rosenzweig all saw their names on the first Tewaaraton Watch List of the year, highlighting the nation's best players in college lacrosse. Rosenzweig, one of the final 25 Tewaaraton Award nominees last year, currently leads the team offensively with 19 goals and 29 assists for 48 points. Belodeau ranks second on the team in points on the season with 31, while Barry is third with 18 and ranks second with 20 ground balls.

Notes on Northwestern
The Wildcats are 7-3 on the year, featuring two wins over ranked opponents, including a 19-11 triumph over #19 Penn State on Thursday evening. All three of Northwestern's losses on the year have come to top-10 opponents, including setbacks against Syracuse, North Carolina and Boston College. The Wildcats feature one player currently on the Tewaaraton Watch List in Selena Lasota, as the senior attacker currently leads the squad with 49 points and is one of four from Northwestern with at least 30, joined by Lindsey McKone, Izzy Scane and Lauren Gilbert. Julie Krupnick has earned every decision in goal, owning a .433 save percentage. The Wildcats boast the nation's top scoring offense, averaging 19.11 goals per game.
