NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team dropped third-seeded Harvard on Friday afternoon, 4-1, to advance to Saturday's ECAC Championship semifinals and improve to 4-0 for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
Freshman Iuliia Bryzgalova continued her outstanding debut campaign with two more victories, including a singles victory over 75th-ranked Erica Oosterhout at No. 1 in convincing fashion, 6-0, 7-6. She combined with OJ Singh to take down the Crimson's No. 2 doubles pair that included Oosterhout to help Penn earn the doubles point. The other doubles victory came from Ashley Zhu and Mimi Levine at No. 3 to secure the 1-0 lead into singles play.
In addition to Bryzgalova's victory, Marija Curnic and Ashley Zhu turned in emphatic performances to drop Harvard at both No. 3 and 4 singles and move the Quakers to the semifinals.
