Women's Tennis Sweeps Marist For 3-0 Start

PHILADELPHIA – For the first time since the 2014-15 season, the University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team improved to 3-0 after sweeping Marist 7-0 on Sunday without dropping a single set at Hecht Tennis Center.

Penn jumped out to a quick start in doubles, and the Quakers earned the point with three victories while losing just six total games. Marta Kowalska and Marija Curnic rolled over the Red Foxes' top duo 6-2, moving Kowalska and Curnic to 9-4 together this year and now 3-0 in the spring. Top singles player Iuliia Bryzgalova and Ashley Zhu battled to a 6-4 victory and OJ Singh and Mimi Levine completed the doubles sweep with a 6-0 victory at No. 3.

In singles, it was more of the same for the Red and Blue. Bryzgalova won at No. 1, 6-2, 6-0 and is now 16-2 thus far in her rookie season. Kowalska cruised 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2, Curnic dropped just three games to win at No. 3, Zhu won 6-1, 6-3 and both Singh and Levine ran away with 6-1, 6-1 victories at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

On a roll, Penn competes in the ECAC Championships, beginning on Thursday, Feb. 7.
