Football Names Maurice Banks Outside Linebackers Coach

PHILADELPHIA – Maurice Banks has joined the #UPrising as outside linebackers coach as announced by George A. Munger Head Coach of Football Ray Priore.
 
Banks replaces Jeff Smart who took a coaching role at Boise State this offseason.
 
"We're proud to welcome Maurice to the Penn Football Family," said Priore. "He's a great young football mind and another rising star in the coaching world. He's helped produce a defense that is aggressive and disruptive and we're excited to have him rejoin his old head coach, Bob Benson, as they partner again on the defensive side of the ball."
 
Banks comes to Philadelphia after spending the previous five seasons coaching at his alma mater with the Georgetown Hoyas. He was defensive backs coach with the Hoyas from 2014-18, adding special teams coordinator responsibilities the last two seasons.
 
Last season, Banks coached a secondary that ranked No. 3 in the FCS in Team Passing Efficiency Defense (97.2%) and No. 4 in Interceptions (20) while also ranking No. 15 in Scoring Defense (21.1 ppg).
 
Banks coached four All-Patriot League defensive backs during the last five seasons, helping the Hoyas to 33 combined interceptions over the past two seasons. In addition, he coached Ahmad Wilson to a pair of All-Patriot League selections as a non-kicking special teamer.
 
Banks originally began his coaching career as defensive backs coach at Georgetown in 2010 where he coached two All-Patriot League players. In between stints at his alma mater, Banks put together an impressive resume coaching internationally. In 2011, he served as a player/coach with the Corinthian Black Lions in Austria. From 2012-14, he coached in Brazil First, he served as defensive coordinator with the Joinville Gladiators before moving to the Vasco Da Gama Patriotas where he was assistant head coach/defensive coordinator. His two seasons in Brazil were spent as head coach with Rio Atlantico.
 
After graduation from Georgetown, Banks spent time as a player with the Marburg Mercenaries in Germany where he played defensive back and quarterback while coaching in the secondary. In 2008, he was player/coach with the Bergamo Lions in Italy. He also spent time in the Arena Football League 2 with the Boise Burn.
 
Captain of the Hoyas in 2005, Banks' collegiate career saw him earn a pair of All-Patriot League selections in the secondary. He graduated in 2006 with a degree in sociology and a minor in music.
