CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight crew closed out the fall portion of its 2019-20 season on Saturday at the Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta. The 2,000-meter races took place on the nearby Cooper River.
Penn had four boats compete across two races in the College Men's Varsity Eights, which had a limited seven-boat field. The Quakers posted four of the top five times in the division, with the fastest boat clocking 5:55.150 across the 2,000-meter course. That boat was coxed by
Julianna Langhorn, stroked by
Colley Loum, and featured
Alex Beheshti,
Aleksandar Izda,
Jorke Kooijenga,
Jackson Polverari,
Jerod Bayly,
Alexander Bowlby, and
Thomas Hogeboom.
Penn's second-fastest boat also broke six minutes, in 5:59.680, and the Quakers' third-fastest boat was timed in 6:10.620. Colgate had the fourth-fastest boat, in 6:19.680, and then Penn's fourth boat was next in 6:23.980. The other boats in the field were La Salle and Binghamton.
The results were a fitting cap to an outstanding fall for the program, as the Quakers collected some nice hardware the last few weeks. It started with a trio of wins at the Navy Day Regatta, then really gained steam with gold medals in the Lightweight Fours and silver in the Lightweight Eights at the prestigious Head of the Charles. One week after that, the Eights picked up a win at the Princeton Chase.
