"Know Before You Go" Fan Information
The fifth-most played rivalry in all of college football reconvenes at historic Franklin Field as the Quakers and Big Red compete for the Trustees' Cup in front of a Homecoming crowd. The Quakers are coming off of a thrilling last-second win over Brown, while the Big Red are looking for their first win in the series since 2013.
The Penn-Cornell Series — 126th Meeting
A rivalry that began in 1893 dials it up once again as Penn and Cornell meet today. The Quakers have won the last five meetings and 10 of the last 12 to build a 74-46-5 all-time lead in the rivalry.
Ray Priore is 4-0 all-time against Cornell, including wins in 2015 and 2016 which helped clinch Ivy League championships. Last season, Penn rallied in the second half in Ithaca, outscoring the Big Red, 17-0, over the final two quarters to secure a 20-7 victory.
Quakers Stun Brown With Late FG
A 35-19 lead for Penn early in the third quarter had quickly vanished last week at Franklin Field as Brown had scored 17 unanswered points to take a 36-35 lead. After a sturdy stop on 4th-and-10 with 4:10 remaining, the Quakers took over at their own 20. From there, Penn dialed up a 16-play drive which ended with
Daniel Karrash's first collegiate field goal attempt – a successful 24-yarder which sent the Penn sideline into delirium and sent the Quakers into the Ivy League win column. Junior
Brian O'Neill had two interceptions and a fumble return for a touchdown to lead the defense, while sophomore
Ryan Cragun had 11 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown.
KK2K
Senior
Karekin Brooks continues to climb Penn's all-time rushing charts. He ran for 72 yards and a touchdown against Yale in his last game, giving him 761 yards and eight TDs in 2019. For his career, Brooks has run for 2,605 yards which ranks No. 4 all-time by a Quaker. He is now 112 yards away from the No. 3 spot held by Terrance Stokes '95 who finished his illustrious Penn career with 2,717 yards. Brooks enters today with 26 career rushing TDs, two away from tying Jim Finn '99 who had 28 touchdowns before embarking on his NFL career.
Climbing The Ivy League Ranks
Not only is Brooks climbing the Penn all-time charts, he is making his move up the Ivy League's all-time record books. His 2,605 yards rushing rank No. 25 all-time among Ivy running backs. His sights are now set on Dartmouth's Dominick Pierre '14 (No. 24; 2,638) and Harvard's Gino Gordon '11 (No. 23; 2,643).
Leading The Nation
Karekin Brooks ranks No. 1 in the country in rushing yards-per-game (126.8) and sophomore wide receiver
Ryan Cragun ranks No. 2 in the nation in receiving yards-per-game (124.7). Brooks (No. 10; 142.0) and Cragun (No. 26; 124.6) make Penn 1 of 3 schools in the country with two players among the Top-40 in all-purpose yards-per-game and the only school to do so with players not factoring in on the return game.
Climbing The Record Books
Sophomore
Ryan Cragun has accumulated 748 receiving yards over six games this season, already ranking No. 13 in a single season all-time by a Quaker. He is 70 yards from passing Penn Athletics Hall of Famer Miles Macik's 1995 season (817) and 93 away from surpassing Macik's 1993 campaign (840). Senior
Nick Robinson enters today's game with 2,620 career passing yards which is good for No. 17 all-time by a Quaker. Robinson has 12 passing touchdowns this season which is tied for No. 15 in a season by a Quaker. His 21 career passing TDs rank No. 11 all-time by a Penn signal-caller and he is one away from tying John McGeehan '85 for No. 10.
Turning On The Turnovers
After going three games without causing a turnover, the Quakers have recorded nine over their last seven games — six interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Two of Penn's nine turnovers have led to touchdowns, including
Brian O'Neill's 21-yard fumble recovery against Brown.
Sack Lunch
As a team, Penn ranks No. 23 in the FCS with 2.7 sacks-per-game despite going without a sack over three games from 10/4-10/19. Last week, the Quakers had eight sacks against Brown. On the flip side, the offense ranks No. 24 in sacks allowed, conceding just 1.4 per game.
Mowing Them Down
Benji Mowatt has three sacks over the last two games, giving him 5.0 for the season. He has 16.0 total tackles over his career as a pass-rushing specialist with 9.0 of them being sacks.
Prince Emili, Fabulous He!
Senior
Prince Emili has set career highs in tackles (42), sacks (2.0) and tackles for loss (9.0). His previous high in tackles for loss was 3.5 in 2018. He has at least 1.0 TFl in each of the last six games and has 5.0 over the last two.
Winner, Winner!
Sophomore
Daniel Karrash made his first career field goal attempt one to remember as he connected on a 22-yarder with 0:02 left to secure a 38-36 win for Penn over Brown on Nov. 2. He is 10-for-11 on PATs, with the one miss a block at Yale.
Doubling Up The 100s?
Ryan Cragun (748 yards) and
Karekin Brooks (761 yards) are both within range of reaching the 100-yard mark for the season. If they both were to do so, it would mark only the second time in program history that Penn produced both a 100-yard receiver and running back. The only other time the Quakers have done so was in 2003 when WR Dan Castles (1,067) and RB Sam Matthews (1,266) both crossed the century mark.
