PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team will play its first home game of the season on Wednesday, and it's the first leg of the city series as the Quakers host La Salle at 7 p.m. The Red and Blue won the Big 5 title last year, of course, so this will be the first step toward the defense of that crown.

Dingle Earns Weekly Honors
Freshman
Jordan Dingle was the first Ivy League Rookie of the Week for 2019-20, the first set of weekly awards were announced on Monday. Dingle had 24 points in Penn's 81-80 win at Alabama last Tuesday—the most by a Penn freshman in his college debut—and followed it up by tying for game-high honors with 20 on Saturday at Rice.
The Penn-La Salle Series
• This is the 73rd meeting between the Quakers and the Explorers in men's basketball, with Penn leading the series 41-31.
• Penn has won three of the last four matchups after dropping eight in a row.
• The lone loss over the last four years came right here at The Palestra, a 75-71 decision two years ago that needed two overtimes to be settled.
• Penn won last year's game at the Gola, 83-65, behind 17 points from
AJ Brodeur and 14 from
Devon Goodman. It was the Quakers' biggest win in a Big 5 game since a 71-47 win over La Salle on January 14, 2004.
Some Big 5 Notes
• Penn has won its last five Big 5 games dating back to the 2017-18 season. That's the longest streak since the Quakers won six in a row across the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.
• Penn's 4-0 Big 5 campaign last year was the program's first since the 2001-02 season and just the second since 1973-74.
Penn vs. Atlantic 10
The Quakers are 98-108 all-time against the programs that currently make up the Atlantic 10 Conference. In addition to La Salle, it includes a 37-50 mark against fellow city rival Saint Joseph's. Last year the Red and Blue went 3-0 against A-10 competition with wins over the Explorers and Hawks as well as at George Mason.
A Bit About AJ Brodeur
• The senior enters Wednesday's game with 27 straight double-figure scoring games, the fifth-longest streak in program history...
Ernie Beck, 74 from 1951-53
Stan Pawlak, 60 from 1964-66
Ron Haigler, 41 from 1974-75
Keven McDonald, 38 from 1977-78
AJ Brodeur, 27 in 2019
Jeff Neuman, 25 in 1966
• AJ has started all 94 games played during his career; his streak of starts is the 12th-longest at the NCAA Division 1 level entering the 2019-20 season.
Penn by the Numbers
1 • Among the program's 1,791 all-time wins, the number that have taken place on an SEC opponent's home court; that happened last Tuesday when Penn won at Alabama 81-80.
3 • All-Ivy players who return to Penn's lineup in 2019-20: senior captains
AJ Brodeur, (two-time unanimous first-team All-Ivy),

That list included guys like R.J. Barrett (Duke), Grant Williams (Tennessee) and Ethan Happ (Wisconsin). It also included Brodeur, who led Penn with 547 points, 257 rebounds and 113 assists.
10.1 • Points-per-game improvement by
Goodman from 2017-18 (3.8 ppg) to last year (13.9); he was one of just five players nationally at Division 1 to make the double-digit jump in ppg.
12 • Points scored at Alabama by
Betley, who suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in last year's opener at George Mason and missed the rest of the season.
