Field Hockey Makes Final Road Trip For Bout With Brown

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team hits the road for the last time this season as the Quakers head to Providence, R.I. to face Brown on Saturday at noon.
 
After splitting a pair of results last weekend, Penn is 6-9 on the season and 3-2 in Ivy League play following a 4-2 win over Yale. The Quakers are currently in a three-way tie for third place in the Ancient Eight standings, even with Cornell and Columbia.

The Quakers haven't had much trouble with Brown over the teams' 42 meetings. Penn has won each of the last eight matchups, most recently taking a 1-0 decision last year at Ellen Vagelos Field. The game wasn't as close as the score suggested, as the Quakers outshot the Bears 31-2 on the day.

Elita van Staden now leads the Quakers with seven goals and 14 points after converting a pair of penalty strokes against Yale last weekend. This season, she is a perfect 4-for-4 on strokes.

A mainstay in the Penn lineup over the past four years, Alexa Schneck has been a thorn in the side of Ivy League opponents. In 26 Ancient Eight games, Schneck has totaled 36 points with 13 goals and 10 assists. This season she has totaled six points in five games from one goal and four assists.

The Quakers lead the Ivy League and rank third in the nation with 7.7 penalty corners earned per game.

Penn ranks second in the Ivy League with 214 shots and averages 14.3 shots per game. The Quakers have eclipsed 20 shots in four games this season.

Brown enters the weekend 5-10 and is tied with Yale for sixth in the Ivy League standings with a 1-4 conference record. The Bears are currently on a three-game losing streak and have lost their last three Ivy League games.
