In addition to playing doubles with Curnic, Bryzgalova will also compete in the singles draw after clinching a berth by way of reaching the quarterfinal of the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships. The doubles pair qualified after winning the ITA Northeast Regional in a three-set thriller, fighting off four match points to win 1-6, 6-1, 13-11 in the final – the first Penn team to win the regional since Sol Eskenazi and Sonya Latycheva in 2012.
Bryzgalova is amassing quite a resume through the fall of her sophomore season. The reigning unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year is 13-2 in her second season, toppling five ranked opponents already, including three top-25 players. At the All-American Championships, Bryzgalova won two matches to reach the main draw before knocking off No. 23 McCartney Kessler (Florida) in straight sets and No. 5 Kelly Chen (Duke) and No. 12 Cameron Morra (UNC) in three-set matches.
As a doubles pair, Bryzgalova and Curnic are now 13-2 together and ranked firmly in the top 60. They cruised through the ITA Northeast Regional before their incredible comeback in the final. Previously, at the All-American Championships, they won three qualifying matches to reach the main draw, where they knocked off No. 11 Lauren Alter/Tatum Rice (Arkansas) before bowing out to No. 31 Marie Mattel/Rebeka Stolmar (UCF) in the round of 16.
