Women's Basketball Concludes Non-Conference Play Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - One final game is in the way of a 10 win non-conference slate for the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team, as the Quakers host local foe Haverford College on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. The game is Penn's last before the start of traditional Ivy League weekends, starting in February.

In the Series vs. Haverford: First Meeting
Penn and Haverford have never met before in women's basketball.

Catching the Game: ESPN+
Sunday's game can be watched live on ESPN+, as part of the Ivy League's new partnership with ESPN. In-game Twitter updates and video can be found at @PennWBB. A complete recap, box score and highlights can be found on PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of the game.

Free Tickets for Furloughed Federal Employees
In light of the ongoing partial government shutdown, Penn Athletics would like to offer their support to members of the Philadelphia Community who have been directly affected. Furloughed federal employees and their families can enjoy a basketball game and post-game activity while cheering on the Quakers. Fans can show their federal ID at The Palestra this Sunday, January 27 to receive up to four free tickets to watch the Quakers take on Haverford. After the game children in 6th grade and below can come on to the court with their parents and score a basket during Parent-Child Layup Day. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday. The box office will open at noon.

Last Time Out: W, 71-62 vs. Temple (Jan. 23, 2019)
   -  Penn finished the season with three wins in the Big 5 for just the third time in program history, following a 71-62 victory over Temple at The Palestra last time out. The Quakers were led by three players in double-figure scoring, including a near triple-double from Ashley Russell, with 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
   -  Eleah Parker and Princess Aghayere both chipped in 14 points in the post, as the Quakers held off a late charge from the Owls. Penn ends the year second in the Big 5, with a 3-1 record.

Scouting the Fords
Haverford enters Sunday's matchup with an overall record of 13-4, including a 9-4 mark in the Centennial Conference. The Fords are led on offense by 13.4 points per game from Mary Goldbach, and are known to have a stingy defense, allowing just 48.6 points per game from their opponents.

Against Non Division I Opponents
Coach McLaughlin is 4-0 in his time at Penn against Non-DI opponents. Last year, the Quakers earned an 89-25 victory over Gwynedd Mercy.

All About the Defense
Penn's calling card this season has undoubtedly been defense, as the Quakers rank third nationally, allowing just 51.5 points per game. In games against Maine, La Salle, Iona and Drexel, Penn held held four-straight opponents to 47 points or less for the first time since 1975.

Penn has won 63 of its last 64 games when holding opponents to 49-points or less.

Brick Wall
Opponents have faced a tough task when going inside to face Parker, as the sophomore ranks second nationally, averaging 3.54 blocks per game. Her 46 blocks so far this season individually would rank her over 96 TEAMS in block totals.

Magic Number: 60
The statistic that may most indicate a Penn win or loss? 60 points. Penn has won 92 of its last 93 regular season games when scoring at least 60 points. Since head coach Mike McLaughlin took over at Penn, the Quakers are 123-11 (.918) when they reach that number (95-3 over the last four seasons). In comparison, the Quakers are just 42-101 (.293) when they've scored less than 60 points under Coach McLaughlin. The trend continues defensively. Over the last seven seasons, the Red and Blue are 32-53 (.376) when allowing 60 points or more. But when holding opponents under that number, the Quakers hold a healthy winning record of 131-33 (.798).

Defensively Consistent
Penn has held its opponents to 68 points or less in 104 of its past 109 games. The lone games over that mark since Feb. 14, 2015 were last season and this season at #1/1 Notre Dame.

Up Next
It's all Ivy League from here on out for the Quakers, with the first weekend road trip to The Empire State, beginning with a visit to Cornell on Friday, Feb. 1.
