How it Happened

The Quakers began Saturday morning looking to bounce back after a close loss to Radford the night before. Penn got off to a hot start against Saint Francis by taking the opening game. Kills by Madison Goldstein and Parker Jones led a 4-0 run to give the Red and Blue a commanding 17-12 lead. Jones then helped close the first game 25-18 to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Like the night before however, Penn fell in the ensuing three games on its way to a 3-1 loss. The Quakers came back from a late five-point deficit at 16-11 to tie the fourth game at 20, but lost four of the next six points to fall 25-22.

Penn's last match of the weekend came against Lehigh. The Quakers lost the opening two games 25-21 and 25-14 to go down 2-0. Hoping to finish the weekend on a high note, they did not go down without a fight. Sulaimon hit two of her 15 kills in the match early in the third game as the Quakers jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead. The Red and Blue never relinquished that lead, and while the Mountain Hawks pulled within three late, Madison Goldstein put away a kill to give her team a 25-22 third game win.

Down 2-1, The Quakers once again found themselves up in the fourth, 11-9, but Lehigh used an 9-0 run to go up 18-11. Penn pulled within four at 23-19, but lost the next two points to go down 3-1 for the fourth straight match.

Raven Sulaimon ended on the all-tournament team for the Quakers as she finished the weekend with 34 kills and a .314 attack percentage. She also ended with four digs and three blocks.
