2018-19 FULL SCHEDULE
PHILADELPHIA – On the heels of a banner year that included team championships for the women at the Indoor and Outdoor Heptagonal Championships and a pair of runner-up finishes for the men, the University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track and field squads have announced their schedules for the 2018-19 seasons.
"It's an exciting time for Penn Track & Field as we look to build on the competitive success we have experienced over the last few years," said James P. Tuppeny/Betty J. Costanza Director of Track and Field Steve Dolan. "With four All-Americans and a large group of NCAA Preliminary qualifiers returning, we are also excited about what is possible on the national level in 2019."
Plenty of familiar events still reside on the schedule from previous seasons both at Franklin Field and away from Philadelphia, but the Quakers are also slated to attend some new venues in the upcoming year.
"We are very pleased with how our competitive schedule has come together," Dolan said. "I can't wait to watch our student-athletes compete with the best teams both here on the East Coast and across the United States this indoor and outdoor season."
Trips to the New York Armory and Cambridge, Mass. highlight the indoor season for the Red and Blue, while Penn will host both the Penn Challenge and the 125th running of The Penn Relays at Franklin Field in the spring.
"This indoor season, we embark on a number of excellent meets at first-class venues," said Dolan. "In particular, we have an exciting addition this year at the Texas Tech Invitational."
The indoor season opens for Penn at the TCNJ Opener at the New York Armory on Dec. 1, 2018. The first trip to Cambridge follows that for a Penn vs. Harvard Dual on Dec. 9 and the New Year opens with the Navy Invitational on Jan. 12 before Penn heads to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the first of two visits in the indoor season at the Penn 8-Team Select on Jan. 19; the Staten Island, N.Y. facility will also host the Villanova Invitational on Feb. 2. A return trip to The Armory is scheduled for Jan. 25-26 for the Big Apple Challenge before heading north to the Valentines Invitational, hosted by Boston University, on Feb. 8-9. The Texas Tech Invitational runs the same weekend. The regular season will conclude on Feb. 23-24 at the Princeton Invitational before the Quakers begin postseason racing at the Ivy Heptagonal Championships in Cambridge, Mass. on Feb. 23-24 and NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 9-10.
"One of the big highlights of the outdoor season is the opportunity to compete at home in Franklin Field. The competitive schedule we take on should prepare us well for the championship season," Dolan added.
The Penn Challenge will mark the first of six regular season weekends during the outdoor season on March 23. The Raleigh and Texas Relays will run March 29-30 before Penn stays local at the Temple Invitational on April 5. Penn will take on more top teams on the national scene at the Tennessee Relays on April 12-13 and then at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton on April 19-20 before concluding the month at The Penn Relays on April 25-27. Princeton will host the Heptagonal Championships on May 4-5 and the NCAA East Preliminaries will follow two weeks later before the NCAA Finals on June 5-8.
