HOW IT HAPPENED
Lehigh came out firing, blasting a shot in the fourth minute to welcome Forbes to the game. Forbes proved up to the task, making the save as Penn survived a flurry of chances from the Mountain Hawks in the early minutes. As time went on, Penn settled down and began to find looks of its own, earning its first shot of the night in the ninth minute, as
Jerel Blades fed a ball to Bhangdia who finished high of the goal.
Bhangdia again would produce for Penn, notching a shot on goal in the 17th minute, before sailing one wide seven minutes later. Both squads went into the halftime break boasting stout defensive efforts, with much of the game played in the midfield.
Into the second half the Mountain Hawks again looked for the early momentum setter, forcing a Forbes save less than three minutes into action. Bartel would square one up himself in the 56th minute, leading to Lehigh save, as neither team would record a serious threat until the late stages of regulation.
Stitz, a rookie, asserted himself on offense to end the game, firing away three shots in the final 20 minutes of regulation, including one on goal. Both teams were put into trying defensive scenarios with seconds winding down, but the backline for both sides prevailed to send the game into overtime.
Penn posted three shots in the 20 minutes of overtime, seeking a golden goal, to Lehigh's two, but finished unable to break the Mountain Hawk defense.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Quakers will wrap up their four-match road swing next weekend, traveling to New York to face Marist on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
