Hello again, sports fans! The Quakers begin their 142nd season of football today at Historic Franklin Field against one of their oldest rivals in the Bucknell Bison. The two teams have met 34 previous times dating back to the 19th century, but have not clashed since 2010. The Bison have two games under their belts, but the Quakers are hungry to open a season with a win on home turf for the second year in a row.
The Penn-Bucknell Series — 35th Meeting
While today marks the 35th meeting between the two schools, the first one came all the way back in 1895! The Quakers downed the Bison, 40-0, in that game — just the second football game ever played at Franklin Field. The Quakers went on to post a 14-0 record in 1895 on their way to a second consecutive undefeated national championship. The Red and Blue won the first 14 games of the series between the two teams, and enter today's game on a six-game winning streak against the Bison.

Penn In Season Openers
The Quakers are 104-36-1 all-time in season openers, and 3-7 in their last 10 games to open a season. The last time Penn opened a season against Bucknell was in 1969 — a 28-17 win for the Quakers on 9.27.69 at Franklin Field. The Quakers are 3-0 all-time in season openers against Bucknell.
A Look at Bucknell
The Bison finished 2017 with a 5-6 record and a 2-4 mark inside the Patriot League, picking up a win at Cornell and losing to Lehigh — teams the Quakers defeated in '17. Week One in 2018 saw the Bison drop a 14-7 decision at William & Mary following a 75-yard TD pass for W&M in the fourth quarter. Last week, the Bison were defeated by Sacred Heart, 30-14.
Streaking Into The Season
The Quakers enter today's game riding a four-game winning streak dating back to the end of 2017 — tied for the fifth-longest winning streak in FCS football. Those four wins have followed a four-game losing streak — which followed a four-game winning streak. The longest winning streak for the Quakers under head coach
Ray Priore is six from 10/17-11/21/15.
