No. 10 Penn Downed By No. 18 Princeton

Box Score PRINCETON – No. 10 Penn had trouble getting its offense started in a crucial Ivy League game at No. 18 Princeton, falling behind off a nearly-24:00 scoreless drought in the first half and unable to rally in a 21-8 loss to the Tigers.

With the defeat, Penn falls to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in the Ivy League. Princeton improves to 9-5 and is also 5-1 in Ivy League play.

With one weekend of Ivy play remaining, there are three teams tied atop the Ivy standings at 5-1. Penn, Princeton and Dartmouth all have a chance at an Ivy League title with one game left on the schedule. A Penn win Saturday at Yale can still secure the program's 11th Ivy League championship since 2007.

Notes To Know
  • One game after scoring 24 goals – one shy of the program record – Penn conceded 21 – its most since Harvard scored 21 in 1993.
  • Erin Barry had three goals, her seventh hat trick of the season.
  • Gabby Rosenzweig had a hat trick, her eighth of the season.
  • Zoe Belodeau had five draw controls, giving her 81 this season – a new Ivy League Rookie Record.

How It Happened

Penn scored early, taking a 1-0 lead on a Caroline Cummings free position goal 0:56 into the game. The Quakers would go cold after that goal, not adding their second marker of the game until 23:53 later when Elyse Decker scored on a free position.

During that span, Princeton had scored seven times – five from eight-meter shots – and led, 7-1.

Rosenzweig would follow Decker's goal with a free position score of her own with 2:10 remaining in the first half. Rosenzweig had a chance to cut further into the deficit in the final minute of the half, but her low shot was saved by Sam Fish. Princeton would go down the field and score with 0:13 remaining on an Elisabeth George goal off a rebound.

Penn got within three a third of the way through the second half as Gabby Rosenzweig connected with 20:18 to play to cut the Red and Blue's deficit to 10-7. That was as close as Penn would get, Princeton scored the next two in a span of 1:07 to retake a five-goal lead.

Erin Barry would score with 18:11 left to make the score 12-8, but Princeton would tack on the next nine to set the final score.

The Quakers complete the regular season on Saturday, visiting Yale at 4 p.m. on the Ivy League Network and ESPN+.
