How it Happened

To start the afternoon, the Quakers celebrated the illustrious careers of Jurie Joyner, Molly Oretsky, Katie Petroski, and Mason Spichiger. The four seniors combined for 80 wins in their careers and would play their final game at Penn Park on Sunday. All four would start their final game at home together.

The Quakers bats were much colder than they were the day before when the team scored a combined 19 runs. It wouldn't be until the third inning when Penn got its first hit, a double to deep right field from Katie Petroski. Later in the inning, Petroski came in to score to cut the Big Red lead down to two and make the score 3-1.

After three innings in the circle, throwing three strikeouts and allowing three runs on four hits, Spichiger was replaced by sophomore Jennifer Brann

Down 4-1 in the sixth, the Quakers looked to rally and make a final push to try and get a win on senior day. With two outs, freshman Abigail Abramson hit a double to drive in two runs and make it a one-score game.

Cornell responded with four runs of their own in the top of the seventh to push their lead to five.

Penn would not go down without a fight. They loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame and were able to bring in a run on a sac fly from Sarah Cwiertnia. With two outs, Jessica England was tagged on her way to third base on a hit from Joyner to conclude the Quakers' 8-4 game three loss to Cornell.

What's Next

The Quakers will travel to Princeton next week to wrap up the 2018 season.
