LEONIA, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight rowing team took third in a pair of races on Saturday, as the Blackwell Cup was contested at Overpeck Park.
Penn's Varsity 8 raced Yale and Columbia for the Blackwell Cup, and the Quakers were third on the 2,000-meter course in 6:08.5. The Bulldogs were champions and retained the cup in 5:53.5, while Columbia nipped Penn at the line to take second in 6:07.4.
Penn's Second Varsity 8 also was third on Saturday, Yale winning that race in 6:00.7 with Columbia second in 6:15.7 and Penn third in 6:21.2.
Penn is back in action next Saturday, traveling to Navy to meet the Midshipmen and Harvard. The Adams Cup will be on the line in the Varsity 8 race that day.
