Men's Lacrosse Faces Navy Tuesday at New US Lacrosse Center

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team has little time to dwell on Saturday's 10-7 loss to Penn State at Franklin Field. The 17th-ranked Quakers are right back to action on Tuesday night, playing Navy in a neutral-site game at the new US Lacrosse Headquarters field in Sparks, Md.

The Series
The Quakers and the Midshipmen are meeting for the 50th time, with Navy holding a 43-6 lead in the series. In fact, when Penn defeated Navy almost exactly a year ago on Penn Park's Ace Adams Field, 11-9, it was the Quakers' first win over the Middies since 1988 and snapped a 13-game losing streak in the series.

About Navy
The Midshipmen (3-2) opened the season with losses to Jacksonville and Maryland, but have beaten UMBC, Boston University and Bucknell since then. They are one of seven teams receiving votes in the USILA national coaches' poll. Greyson Torain leads the Navy attack with 15 points (9g, 6a), while Jack Ray is the team leader in goals (12) and Christian Daniel and Ryan Wade share the team lead in assists (7). Ryan Kern has played every minute in goal; he has a .511 save percentage and an 8.60 goals-against average.

About Penn
*Junior Simon Mathias led Penn's offense in Saturday's loss to PSU, scoring twice and dishing out an assist. He has a team-high 12 points (7g, 5a) and his point-scoring streak is up to 32 games.

*Senior Kevin McGeary, who led the Penn attack in its 10-9 win over then-No. 1 Duke on February 24, had his team-high ninth goal this season on Saturday against the Nittany Lions. Overall, he has 11 points.

*Last Monday, McGeary was named the Ivy League Player of the Week; on Tuesday, he was named to the USILA's Division I Team of the Week.

*Senior Reilly Hupfeldt, junior Tyler Dunn and sophomore Adam Goldner all had a goal and an assist on Saturday; Dunn and Goldner both have six points on the season (5g, 1a) while Hup has five (2g, 3a).

*Penn's other scorer against Penn State was freshman Sean Lulley, who now has three goals this season which is tops among newcomers.

*Penn has had two long poles score already this season, as All-America candidate Connor Keating scored against Michigan—amazingly, his 29th career goal—while Jack Ullrich tallied against Maryland. In the Duke win, Keating had two assists including a feed on the winner.

*The Quakers' other goal scorers so far this season are juniors Joe Licciardi and Alex Roesner.

*At the other end, junior Reed Junkin—the 2016 co-Ivy League Rookie of the Year with teammate Mathias—has a .478 save percentage and a 9.60 goals against average. He sat out the first quarter of the season opener with Michigan, but has played every second since then.

*The Quakers return their top 11 scorers from last season. Of the 147 goals scored by the Quakers a year ago, all but six were scored by players who return to this year's roster.

*Keating was a third-team USILA All-America selection last year after earning honorable mention recognition as a sophomore. He is the top-scoring LSM in the country, entering the season with 28 goals and six assists for 34 career points.

*Mathias—who led Penn in goals (28), assists (20) and points (48) last year—was a second-team All-Ivy selection last year after sharing Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors in 2016 with teammate Reed Junkin, the Quakers' goalie.

*McGeary (23-12—35 in 2017) and Dunn (18-4—22) received honorable mention All-Ivy recognition last year.

*Three other players had a double-digit goal total last year: senior Hupfeldt (18), Goldner (11), and Keating. Roesner nearly joined the list, with nine goals.

*Chris Santangelo was Penn's top face-off man last year, finishing with a .528 win percentage in 231 draws. Richie Lenskold had 73 faceoffs and had a .479 win percentage.
