SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight rowing team completed its rowing at the San Diego Crew Classic with a fifth-place finish in the Copley Cup six-boat race on Sunday. The Quakers also rowed a pair of duals on Saturday.
Penn's first race on Saturday came against Northeastern and also served as the Burk Cup race for this year. The Huskies were able to retain the cup for 2018, clocking 5:54.445 across the 2,000-meter course, while the Red and Blue were nearly 13 seconds off the pace in 6:07.403.
Later in the day, Penn rowed against the University of California. The Bears won the race in 5:41.207, while Penn improved its time from earlier in the day by clocking 5:54.908.
In the Copley Cup's six-boat final on Sunday, the Quakers were timed in 6:19.229 which had them fifth, well ahead of Navy (6:25.228). Cal was the Copley Cup champion, clocking 5:50.492 to finish 2.23 seconds ahead of second-place Yale (5:52.724). Northeastern was third, while Stanford took fourth ahead of Penn.
