No. 8 Women's Lacrosse Hosts No. 2 Maryland Thursday

PHILADELPHIA – Mother Nature has forced a one-day wait, but No. 8 Penn (7-0) will host No. 2 Maryland (6-1) on Thursday, March 22 at 3 p.m. at Franklin Field.
 
The game is scheduled to be broadcast live online via The Ivy League Network and ESPN3.
 
Notes To Know
  • Penn is 2-23 all-time against Maryland. The Terps have won the last 10 after Penn picked up a 9-7 win in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
  • The Quakers are 3-0 at home this season, but have not played a home game in March.
  • Penn is off to its best start since the 2009 team went 13-0 to begin the year en route to a third consecutive Final Four.
  • Four of Penn's seven wins have come against teams ranks inside the Top-25 of the IWLCA Coaches Poll at the time.
  • Maryland is 6-1 overall, 3-1 against teams ranked inside the Top-25 at the time.
Strength vs. Strength
Penn enters the week ranked No. 3 in the nation in Scoring Defense, allowing 8.14 goals-per-game. Maryland is No. 1 in the country in Scoring Offense, averaging 17.14 goals-per-game. For good measure, Penn ranks No. 20 in Scoring Offense, scoring 14.71 goals-per-game., while Maryland is No. 40 in Scoring Defense with 10.71 goals allowed-per-game.
 
Within The (Big) Margins
Two of the country's top teams in terms of Scoring Margin meet on Thursday. Penn is No. 3 in the nation, outscoring opponents by 6.57 goals-per-game, while Maryland is No. 4 at 6.43 goals-per-game.
 
11th Hour
11 is the magic number for the Quakers so far in 2018. Penn's offense has scored 11 or more goals in all seven games this season, while Penn's defense has not allowed more than 11 goals in a game.
 
To Turnover And Not Turnover
Penn ranks No. 1 in the Ivy League in both Caused Turnovers-Per-Game (10.71) and Fewest Turnovers-Per-Game (13.43). Penn's 13.43 Turnovers-Per-Game are the eighth-fewest in the country, while its CTs-Per-Game number is No. 19.
 
The Cheese Stands Alone
Sophomore goalkeeper Mikaila Cheeseman ranks No. 3 in the nation in GAA (8.01) and No. 6 in save percentage (.556) – leading the Ivy League in both categories.

Freshman Zoe Belodeau is playing as well as any rookie in the country this season. The reigning Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week and Inside Lacrosse National Rookie of the Week leads all rookies in the country with 15 assists, is No. 3 among freshman in DCs-Per-Game (6.14), No. 3 among rookies in Points-Per-Game (4.57) and No. 5 in Total Points (32). Belodeau – who has twice set a new Penn single-game draw control record this season – has 43 DCs through seven games. Last year, Erin Barry led all Penn players with 42 draw controls over 17 games.
 
Belodeau Closing In On Rookie Records
Zoe Belodeau's 32 points through seven games are already within range of Penn's rookie scoring record of 45 set by Erin Brennan '12 during the 2009 season. Brennan would total 27 goals and 18 assists during a rookie season which ended with Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors. Belodeau is also closing in on Penn's record for assists in a rookie season, set by Penn Athletics Hall of Famer Sherry Marcantonio who had 20 in 1980.
 
Condon Catching Fire
The 2017 Ivy League Midfielder of the Year, Alex Condon has nine points over her last two games after totaling 10 in her first five games of the season. She is coming off her best game of the year, connecting for four goals and an assist while causing two turnovers at No. 20 Duke. Her fourth goal in Durham was the 100th of her career, making her the 10th Quaker in program history to reach the century mark. She is averaging 2.0 CTs and 2.0 GBs over her last three games.
 
Rosenzweig Is Rolling
Sophomore Gabby Rosenzweig leads the Quakers in scoring with 25 goals and 13 assists for 38 points. She ranks No. 19 in the nation in points, and No. 38 in goals. Inside the Ivy League, she ranks No. 1 in goals, No. 2 in points, and No. 3 in assists. Rosenzweig is already one goal away from tying her total from last year, three assists and four points.
 
Career Record Book Rankings
Emily Rogers-Healion enters the game with 127 career points, tied for No. 12 all-time at Penn with Giulia Giordano '11. Her 62 career assists rank No. 6 all-time, three away from tying Ali DeLuca '10 for fifth. Alex Condon's 100 career goals are No. 10 all-time at Penn, she is three away from tying Iris Williamson '16 for ninth. Condon's 120 career points are No. 16 all-time at Penn, five away from tying Lori Fruitkin '95 for No. 15.
 
Maryland Musings…
The defending national champions have won four in a row since dropping a 16-15 overtime game at No. 7 North Carolina on Feb. 24. Most recently, the Terps defeated No. 24 Johns Hopkins, 15-5, in Baltimore.
 
Three-time All-American Megan Whittle leads Maryland with 29 goals and seven assists for 36 points. Jen Giles is behind her with 20 goals and nine assists for 29 points.
 
The Terps are treacherous on the free position, scoring 44 of their 120 goals this season off eight-meter shots – leading the nation in FP% at 62.0% (44-of-71). Whittle is wearing goalies down from the arc, scoring on 19 of her 23 free position attempts.
 
Maryland has a 124-85 edge on the draw over seven games, led by Meghan Siverson (38) and Kali Hartshorn (33).
 
Megan Taylor, the 2017 IWLCA National Goalkeeper of the Year, has posted a 10.75 GAA and .426 save percentage this season.
