Women's Basketball Entertains Yale, Brown in Final Regular Season Weekend

PHILADELPHIA - There's still much on the line for the University of Pennsylvania (18-7, 9-3 Ivy) women's basketball team heading into the final weekend of the regular season, as the Quakers welcome Yale and Brown to The Palestra, with senior night slated for Saturday vs. the Bears. Having already clinched a spot in #IvyMadness, Penn can still finish as high as the one seed and as low as the four in the conference tournament, dependent on results at home in Philadelphia and around the league.

In the Series vs. Yale: 82nd Meeting
Penn holds the slim lead in the all-time series vs. the Bulldogs at 42-39. The Quakers have beaten Yale in eight of the last nine meetings, including a 69-54 road victory earlier this season. Penn has not lost at home to the Bulldogs since March 9, 2013.

In the Series vs. Brown: 83rd Meeting
The Quakers have won 14-straight games vs. the Bears, jumping out to a 47-35 advantage in the all-time series. Earlier this season, Penn convincingly defeated Brown in Providence, 88-55, the largest winning margin in series history. Penn has not lost at home to the Bears since an overtime defeat on Feb. 4, 2012.

Catching the Games: Ivy League Network and ESPN3
Both of this weekend's games can be watched live the Ivy League Network (ILN), now available on Apple TV, Roku and the ILN app for Android and Apple devices. Friday's game vs. Yale can also be viewed on ESPN3. In-game Twitter updates can be found @PennWBB. A complete recap, box score and highlights can be found on PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of the game.

Last Time Out: W, 79-50 at Dartmouth (Feb. 24, 2018)
   -  The Quakers salvaged a weekend split last time out, thumping Dartmouth on the road 79-50 to clinch a spot in the Ivy League Tournament. Penn jumped out early and never looked back, racing out to a 20-2 advantage in the first quarter. Junior Ashley Russell led the way with a career-high 21 points.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Yale enters Friday's contest on a hot streak, winners of three-straight and five of its last six games. The Bulldogs rank in the top half of the league in both scoring offense and defense and are led by two of the conference's best in Jen Berkowitz and Tamara Simpson. Berkowitz paces the team with an average of 15 points per game on a conference-best 57 percent from the field. Simpson leads the league with an average of 4.7 steals per contest.

Scouting the Bears
Brown has had an up and down year, boasting the league's top non-conference record, but stumbling in Ivy League play at a 3-9 mark. The Bears continue to prove their merit on offense, leading the Ancient Eight with an average of 77.3 points per game, but allow a conference worst 73.8 points on defense. The league's second and third-best scorers come from Brown in Shayna Mehta (18.8 ppg) and Justine Gaziano (18.5 ppg).

Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge
The Quakers have partnered with the American Cancer Society for the 3-Point Challenge. Throughout the regular season, fans can pledge to donate a certain dollar amount for every 3-point basket made by the Red and Blue! Penn currently ranks eighth in the nation in funds earned. Head to Penn's Pledge It page for more info!

Senior Class
The senior class of Brzozowski, Nwokedi, Ross and Whitlatch has a chance to be the winningest of all-time at Penn, sitting with 85 wins, just four behind the mark of 89 set last year.

Leading the Way
All four seniors, Beth Brzozowski, Michelle Nwokedi, Anna Ross and Lauren Whitlatch were named captains for the 2017-18 season. All together, this contingent of seniors owns over 3,400 points in their three-plus seasons with the Red and Blue, as well as over 1,700 rebounds and 915 assists. Nwokedi is the defending Ivy League Player of the Year, while Ross earned Second Team honors in 2016-17. Whitlatch has been better than ever in her return from suffering a season-ending ACL injury last year, an injury that inserted Brzozowski into the starting lineup.

Speaking of the Record Books...
Last year Nwokedi became the 22nd player in program history to earn 1,000 points in a Feb. 24 victory over Cornell. She currently ranks fifth in program history with 1,431 points.

Climbing the Ladder
Did you think Nwokedi only ranked in the top-10 in program history in scoring, blocks and double-doubles? Well, you'd be wrong. The senior captain is also making a push in the Quaker record books in both career rebounds and career free throws made. Nwokedi currently owns 986 career boards, sitting third, while ranking fifth in career makes from the charity stripe with 336. Nwokedi is also threatening the leaderboard in career field goals made, ranking sixth with 512.

More than Michelle
Don't be fooled, despite her many accolades, Penn boasts a deeper attack than just Nwokedi, and that's shown in the record books. Lauren Whitlatch ranks tied for sixth in Penn history in made 3-pointers (despite sitting out 17 games last season) at 155 for her career, while Anna Ross isn't far behind with 111 on her resume. Both Ross and Beth Brzozowski are poised to enter Penn's list of all-time bests from the free throw line, as Brzozowski currently owns a career percentage of .821, while Ross boasts one of .793, marks that would rank first and fourth respectively if the season ended today.

What's Next?
The regular season concludes this weekend and the Quakers will shift gears into postseason play! Having already clinched a spot in the Ivy League Tournament, Penn will play its first game on Saturday, March 10 at a time TBD.
