No. 15 Women's Lacrosse Hosts Rutgers Before Ivy Opener At No. 18 Cornell

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 15 University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team (2-0) takes the field twice this week, first capping a three-game homestand against Rutgers (3-1) on Wednesday night before opening Ivy League play at Cornell (1-1) on Saturday.

Opening draw with the Scarlet Knights is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Philadelphia in the Philly region in addition to regular coverage on the Ivy League Network (ILN). Saturday's Ivy opener at Cornell is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ILN.

Notes To Know
  • Penn is 9-10 all-time against Rutgers, but has won seven of the last eight meetings dating back to 2005.
  • Last year, the Quakers knocked off the Scarlet Knights, 11-9, in New Jersey. A run of five consecutive goals in Penn's favor provided a 10-5 lead and the Red and Blue would hold on. Caroline Cummings had four goals in the game, Alex Condon had five points.
  • The Quakers are 28-17 all-time against Cornell and have won 12 of the last 14 meetings dating back to 2007. Cornell has won the last two games between the two schools, taking the Ivy League Tournament title game in 2016 before winning, 10-4, in the regular season at Franklin Field in 2017.
  • Last year, Cornell scored eight of the game's final nine goals – including all four in the second half – for the win.
  • Last season, Penn and Cornell shared the Ivy League championships alongside Princeton. All three teams went 6-1 in Ivy League play.

The Condon Conundrum
Alex Condon had four goals in Penn's season opening win over Delaware on February 17. That gives her 10 career games with 4+ goals – Penn is 10-0 in those games. Condon's six goals through two games lead the Quakers, and she enters the week eight goals away from becoming the tenth player in program history to score 100 career goals.

Record Book Watch
Alex Condon enters this week's game ranked No. 11 all-time at Penn in career goals (92) and No. 18 in career points (107) … Emily Rogers-Healion ranks No. 7 in career assists (50) and No. 17 in career points (109).

Zoe-M-G
Freshman Zoe Belodeau scored four times in Penn's late win over No. 22 Johns Hopkins on February 24. Her total included the game-winner with just 0:52 remaining. The rookie has eight points in two games to lead the Quakers and is 5-for-9 shooting.

Cummings Connects
Senior attacker Caroline Cummings has at least one goal in her last 21 games dating back to April 30, 2016. She missed Penn's final four games of 2017 with injury, but has scored 51 goals during her streak – an average of 2.4 per game.

The Erin Express
Erin Barry had a career high four caused turnovers in the season opener after causing just 11 all of last season. She also won four draw controls, one away from tying her career high (5) set last year at Hopkins.

Yo Gabby Gabby!
Gabby Rosenzweig scored three times in the season opener – her fourth career hat trick. She has netted all four of her hat tricks over her last eight games – scoring 21 total goals in that span. Through 19 career games, Rosenzweig is averaging 2.6 points-per-game and is one point away from 50 for her career.

Stefan Stifles
Senior Natalie Stefan is playing a primary role as a defender this season – still seeing some time on attack as needed – and has acclimated well to her new role. The co-captain has five draw controls, three caused turnovers, three ground balls and an assist through two games.

Junior's League
Defender Katy Junior had three caused turnovers and three ground balls against Hopkins – with zero fouls committed – to earn Ivy League Defender of the Week. Her final CT/GB combo of the day was the most important, sending Penn in transition with under 90 seconds to play and eventually leading to the game-winning goal. Junior is averaging 1.6 CTs-per-game and 1.8 GBs-per-game for her career.

Regarding Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights bring a 3-1 record into Franklin Field. Last time out, Rutgers took down Delaware, 14-10. Big Ten preseason player to watch Samantha Budd paced Rutgers with four goals, including a hat-trick in the first eight minutes of the game. Budd has powered the Scarlet Knights in the early part of the season, leading the team in goals (12). While Budd is scoring goals, Abbey Brooks is usually the one feeding her the ball. The junior attacker is tied for second in the conference in assists per game, punctuated by three assists in the outing against Delaware. Kerri Puckhaber, a senior captain that also landed on the Big Ten preseason players to watch list, comes in at third on the team in points with 10 thus far this season.

After dropping their opener to Temple, Rutgers has ripped off three straight wins, averaging 16 goals-per-game during that win streak. Their red-hot offense is in part thanks to tremendous success on the draw. In their first four games, the Scarlet Knights have controlled 15 draws a game, good for the third-best mark in the Big Ten. Having so many possessions, the Penn goalies will have their work cut out for them against a team that has totaled 90 shots on goal through four games.

In the net for Rutgers, junior Devon Kearns will try to slow the Quaker attack. Through her first four games, Kearns has posted a 9.14 GAA and .467 save percentage. In the opener against Temple, she had eight saves.

Concerning Cornell
The Big Red graduated three first-team All-Ivy selections from last year's title team, led by Catie Smith – the 2017 Ivy League Defender of the Year and a first-team All-American. Five of Cornell's six total All-Ivy selections last season have graduated, with midfielder Taylor Reed the lone returner. Reed has two goals in two games this season.

Leading Cornell's offense is sophomore Caroline Allen. After scoring just five goals in 2017, Allen has seven through two games this season. Tomasina Leska is right behind with five.

Grace Paletta has eight of Cornell's 19 draw controls, but the Big Red have been outgunned on the draw, 32-19, through two games.

With Renee Poullott graduated from the cage, sophomore Katie McGahan has taken over and posted an 11.50 GAA and .558 save percentage through two games. She has 29 saves through two games – including a hard-to-believe 18 saves in the opener against Villanova at home.
