Men's Lacrosse Starts 2018 Campaign Saturday With Michigan

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team will face off the 2018 season this Saturday at Franklin Field, hosting the University of Michigan. The Quakers and Wolverines will face off at noon in the first game of a lacrosse doubleheader, as the Penn women host Delaware at 3 p.m.

Both of Saturday's games will be televised live on the Ivy League Network, now available on Apple TV, Roku and the ILN app for Android and Apple devices.

The Series
Penn and Michigan—still a young varsity program—are playing for the third straight season after having never met previously. Penn won the first meeting, two years ago here in Philadelphia, 12-10, but the Wolverines turned the tables last year in Ann Arbor with a 13-12 victory.

About Michigan
Under first-year head coach Kevin Conry, the Wolverines are already 2-0 with the wins coming against Cleveland State (15-5) and Bellarmine (9-7). Brent Noseworthy leads U-M with eight goals, he had five last Saturday and three on Tuesday. Alex Buckanavage has six points (4g, 2a). In goal, Matt Trowbridge has played all but 15 minutes; he has a .621 save percentage and a 6.29 goals-against average.

About Penn
*The Quakers return their top 11 scorers from last season. Of the 147 goals scored by the Quakers a year ago, all but six were scored by players who return to this year's roster.

*Senior long-stick middie Connor Keating was a third-team USILA All-America selection last year after earning honorable mention recognition as a sophomore. He is the top-scoring LSM in the country, entering the season with 28 goals and six assists for 34 career points.

*Junior Simon Mathias was a second-team All-Ivy selection last year after sharing Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors in 2016 with teammate Reed Junkin, the Quakers' goalie.

*Mathias—who led Penn in goals (28), assists (20) and points (48) last year—has recorded a point in every game he has played at Penn. His 28-game streak is the 11th-longest at the NCAA Division 1 level.

*Senior co-captain Kevin McGeary (23-12—35 in 2017) and junior Tyler Dunn (18-4—22) received honorable mention All-Ivy recognition last year.

*Three other players had a double-digit goal total last year: senior Reilly Hupfeldt (18), sophomore Adam Goldner (11), and Keating. Junior Alex Roeser nearly joined the list, with nine goals.

*Chris Santangelo was Penn's top face-off man last year, finishing with a .528 win percentage in 231 draws. Richie Lenskold had 73 faceoffs and had a .479 win percentage.

*Junkin started every game last year in the cage and finished with a .500 save percentage and a 10.39 goals-against average.
