The Series with La Salle
• Saturday marks the 72nd meeting between these longtime Big 5 rivals.
• Penn leads the overall series, 40-31, and has won two of the last three meetings. Prior to that, La Salle had won eight in a row over the Quakers. Prior to
that, Penn had won six in a row and 14 of 16.
• La Salle took a scintillating game last year at The Palestra, 75-71 in double overtime.
• The last time these teams met at the Gola,
AJ Brodeur set Penn's single-game freshman scoring record with 35 points to lead the Quakers to a 77-74 win. That came on the heels of an 80-64 Quakers victory the previous year at The Palestra.
Fun Stuff to Know
• At 7-2, Penn is off to its best start since the 1994-95 team started 8-1 before losing Game No. 10 at then-No. 1 UMass.
• When Penn beat Miami on Tuesday, it snapped a 13-game losing streak to ACC programs that dated back to 2000-01.
• Brodeur has hit double figures in each of the last three games and had a two-game streak of double-doubles snapped when he had 18 points and "only" eight rebounds in Penn's win over Miami.
• Two different freshmen have led the team in scoring in the last two games:
Bryce Washington vs. Delaware State (16 points) and
Michael Wang vs. Miami (23 points).
• Penn has made 41 three-point shots over the last three games (15 vs. Stockton, 13 at Delaware State, 13 vs. Miami) and reached double figures in that category five times in nine games.
Penn by the Numbers
0 • Two-point baskets scored so far this season by senior
Jackson Donahue; all ten of his field goals have come from beyond the arc.
2.20 • Penn's assist/turnover ratio over the last three games (66/30).
3 • Points scored by junior
Ryan Betley in Penn's season opener, when he drained a three-pointer on Penn's first possession of 2018-19; less than five minutes later he ruptured his patellar tendon, and so last year's leading scorer will miss the remainder of the season.
4 • Three-point baskets made by freshman
Bryce Washington in the second half of Penn's win over Northern Iowa on November 16.
They came on four attempts and were hit in a span of 9:06 of game time.
5 • NCAA Division 1 players this year from China, including freshman
Michael Wang. He shares the distinction with Michael Ou (Cal State Northridge), Johnny Wang (Cal State Fullerton), Kevin Zhang (Tulane) and James Zhao (California).
11 • The number of times Penn has hit 90 points in the 98-game Donahue era after wins over Rice (92-76), Lafayette (91-61) and Stockton (112-63).
The last time the Quakers hit 90 points against consecutive Division I opponents was 2002-03, when they scored 99 points at USC and then scored 98 vs. Monmouth.
13 • Losses in a row to ACC teams before Penn beat Miami on Tuesday, 89-75.
16.0 • Penn's average margin of victory in its six Division 1 wins this season.
24 • Penn wins last season, most since the Quakers had 25 in 2001-02. All time, the Red and Blue have had nine seasons with 24 or more victories.
26 • Ivy League titles won by Penn. That is behind only Princeton (27). The rest of the league has 20 combined.
28 • Points scored by senior
Jake Silpe over the last three games (9 vs. Stockton and Delaware State, 10 vs. Miami);
he also has 16 rebounds and 11 assists in that span.
39 • Points scored by junior
AJ Brodeur over the last three games, all double-digit games;
he also has 41 rebounds in the last four contests.
41 • Three-point baskets hit by Penn over the last three games (15 vs. Stockton, 13 at Delaware State, 13 vs. Miami).
83.3 • Wang's three-point percentage against Miami (5-6), tied for best by a Penn player in the Donahue era.
58 • Points scored by all-tournament pick
Devon Goodman at the Paradise Jam (27 vs. Northern Iowa, 18 vs. K-State, 13 vs. Oregon State).
93 • Three-point baskets by Penn this season, a 10.3 per-game average;
the Quakers have hit double figures in that category five times in nine games.
69 • Points needed by Brodeur to reach 1,000 for his career; he would become the 41st player in program history to achieve the milestone.
112 • Penn's point total against Stockton on Nov. 24, the fourth-highest total in program history and most since scoring 114 vs. Haverford on December 18, 1993.
291 • Three-point baskets by Penn last year, a program record.
The Quakers have also set program marks each of the last two years in trey attempts (690 in 2016-17, 830 last season).
38.3 • Penn's win percentage in its first 47 games under head coach
Steve Donahue (18-29).
72.5 • Penn's win percentage in its last 51 games under Donahue (37-14).
