Wang Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League has announced its weekly award winners in men's basketball, and University of Pennsylvania freshman forward Michael Wang was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week.

This marks the third time that Wang has been honored this season, as he also was the Rookie of the Week on November 19 and December 10.

Wang scored 19 points, tied for game-high honors with nine rebounds and also dished out three assists in Penn's 75-65 win at New Mexico on Saturday. The rebound and assist totals were season/career highs for the freshman—who made his first collegiate start on Saturday—while his 19 points was one shy of AJ Brodeur's game-high 20. Wang has 74 points over Penn's last four games, an 18.5 per-game average.

At 10-2, Penn is off to its best 12-game start since the 1993-94 team also was 10-2. In addition, the Red and Blue have won 10 games prior to the New Year for the first time in program history. The Quakers are at Toledo this Saturday, tipping off with the Rockets at 2 p.m., before coming home one final time in 2018 to host Monmouth next Monday at 1 p.m.
