Women's Basketball Hosts NJIT Saturday at The Palestra

PHILADELPHIA - Fresh off a convincing victory against Saint Joseph's to start the Big 5 season, the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team will face a quick turnaround, hosting NJIT on Saturday, Nov. 17 inside The Palestra. The contest against the Highlanders concludes an action-packed opening week of play for the Red and Blue, with four games in the first week of the season.

In the Series vs. NJIT: Sixth Meeting
The Quakers have matched up with the Highlanders five times in program history, with every meeting coming within the last eight years under Coach Mike McLaughlin. After dropping the first two, Penn has won three-straight in the series history, including a 77-38 victory in the championship game of the NJIT Christmas Tournament last season.

Four players scored in double figures, including a game-high 16 from Parker, last season in Newark, N.J.

Catching the Game: ESPN+
Saturday's game can be watched live on ESPN+ by virtue of the Ivy League's new partnership with ESPN. In-game Twitter updates and video can be found at @PennWBB. A complete recap, box score and highlights can be found on PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of the game.

Last Time Out: W, 65-45 vs. Saint Joseph's (Nov. 15, 2018)
   -  The Quakers dominated from start to finish against their Big 5 foe in their home opener on Thursday, dismantling the Hawks for their largest victory in series history. Penn made a living in the paint, scoring 38 points down low to NJIT's 18.
   -  Three Quakers scored in double figures against SJU, including a season-high 16 from senior Princess Aghayere. Eleah Parker notched her first double-double of the season, while Ashley Russell tied a career high with five assists, knocking down 11 points with eight rebounds.

Scouting the Highlanders
NJIT enters Saturday's game at 0-3 on the year, with losses on the road to Saint Peter's, Howard and West Virginia. All three of NJIT's losses have been by double digits, and the Highlanders have allowed each of their opponents to score at least 70 points. NJIT features three players averaging double figures in scoring, led by 13.0 from Kelly Guarino, while Danielle Tunstall averages 6.3 rebounds per game. Mike Lane is in his first year with the program.

Against the ASUN Conference
The Quakers are 4-3 all-time against current members of the ASUN Conference, having only ever played Stetson in addition to NJIT. Penn will match up against the Hatters later this season.

Magic Number: 60
The statistic that may most indicate a Penn win or loss? 60 points. Penn has won 85 of its last 86 regular season games when scoring at least 60 points. Since head coach Mike McLaughlin took over at Penn, the Quakers are 116-11 (.913) when they reach that number (88-3 over the last four seasons). In comparison, the Quakers are just 41-99 (.292) when they've scored less than 60 points under Coach McLaughlin. The trend continues defensively. Over the last seven seasons, the Red and Blue are 29-53 (.354) when allowing 60 points or more. But when holding opponents under that number, the Quakers hold a healthy winning record of 126-31 (.803).

Can't Get to 5-0? It's a No-Go.
The Quakers have won 59-straight games when holding their opponents to 49 points or less. The last time a team defeated the Quakers despite being held under 50 points was January 16, 2013, a 48-44 loss to Big 5 rival Villanova.

Non-Conference Success
Prior to Coach McLaughlin, the Quakers had won nine non-league games only once in program history, but have done so in five of the last six years. Last year's Penn team posted the third-most non-league wins in program history with nine.
