HANOVER - The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team has defeated Dartmouth, 3-2 in double overtime. Penn has won the past four matchups against Dartmouth, with three of those wins decided in double overtime.

Alexa Schneck scored her second goal of the game in the 84th minute, smacking home the corner sent in by Sofia Palacios

Notes
*This is Schneck's second double overtime winner over Dartmouth
*Schneck has nine points over three games against the Big Green (4 goals, 1 assist)
*The Quakers are now 2-1 in Ivy League play.
*Erin Quinn scored the first goal of her career to open the scoring.
*Penn is 4-1 when scoring first, and 2-1 in overtime games

How It Happened
The first half started with end-to-end play between the two teams. Lily Clarkson had a shot go wide on the first corner of the game, but Dartmouth responded quickly with a shot wide and another shot saved by Ava Rosati.

The Quakers offense punched back. On a corner, Paige Meily fired a shot on goal, but a defensive save kept the game scoreless. On the ensuing corner, Julia Russo's shot went wide.

With less than a minute left in the first half, Schneck received the ball on the right side of the field. She utilized some fancy stick work to beat a Dartmouth defender and broke into the circle. She centered the ball to Erin Quinn who redirected the ball into the back of the goal. The goal was the first of her career.

Dartmouth came out in the second half with some offensive pressure of their own. Three minutes into the half, Dartmouth shot twice in succession. The first shot was blocked, and the second was saved by Rosati.

Penn struck back, with Schneck having a shot saved, Mirkin shooting wide, and Meily having her shot blocked.

Dartmouth equalized in the 54th minute. Gemma Bautista tipped in a pass from Jessica Valvano on a Big Green corner.

Erin Kelly and Palacios both had shots saved minutes after the Dartmouth equalizer.

In the 60th minute the Dartmouth keeper committed an infraction after Kelly's shot was saved to earn a penalty stroke for the Quakers. Schneck stepped up and hit the ball low to the keeper's right to give Penn a 2-1 advantage.

Penn nearly doubled their lead immediately after Schneck's penalty stroke, but a defensive save from Dartmouth kept the score the same.

Dartmouth equalized again in the 65th minute. Rosati made an initial, point blank save, but Taylor Hantman was there to score on the rebound.

The second half ended with the score tied 2-2. Penn lead 16-13 in the shots department at the end of regulation.

Julia Russo broke down the field shortly after the start of the first overtime period, but her shot went wide. Dartmouth had two shots, but could not find the game winner.

For the third time in four years, Penn and Dartmouth went to double overtime.

Penn was awarded a penalty corner four minutes into the second period of overtime. Palacios passed the ball to Schneck on the left side of the circle. She fired a hard shot past the Dartmouth keeper to give Penn its second Ivy League victory of the season.

The Quakers travel to Easton, Pa. to take on Lafayette on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
