Men's Soccer vs. Brown Postponed to Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - With three of its final four matches at home on Rhodes Field, the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team hopes for a final surge to the year, beginning with an Ivy League clash against Brown on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m.

MATCH DAY 13 - Brown (7-6-1, 1-3 Ivy League) at Penn (2-4-6, 0-3-1 Ivy League)
Sunday, October 28 | 4 p.m. | Rhodes Field | Live Stats | ESPN+

Series Information

Brown leads 33-24-8 | Last meeting: 2017 (Brown, 2-1 OT)

The Quakers trail in the all-time series with the Bears, 24-33-8, as Brown has made a surge of late, winning five of the last seven meetings between the two sides. The match has gone into overtime in each of the last two seasons, with either squad prevailing on their home turf. On Rhodes Field in 2016, then freshman Dami Omitaomu notched a brace and the golden-goal winner in the 97th minute to upend the Bears, 2-1.

Stingy Defense
Penn's bread and butter this season has been its defense. The Quakers have posted six shutouts in 12 games, ranking 14th nationally as a team in shutout percentage (.500). With a team goals against average of .808, Penn sits 27th nationally in the category, and third in the Ivy League, while senior netminder Scott Forbes sits eighth nationally with a save percentage of 0.838.

Going the Distance
In addition to Forbes playing every minute in the goal for Penn this season, the Quakers have found nice stability in their defensive unit with all four playing at least 1,215 of the possible 1,125 minutes on the field this season, including three playing every second. RC Williams, Alex Touche and Erumuse Momoh have not checked out of a game once this season for the Quakers. All of Penn's extra time on the field, after venturing into overtime in nine of its 12 matches this season, equal up to almost two extra games worth of minutes on the year.

Blanking the Opponent
Last time out, the Quakers battled to a scoreless draw against in-city rival Temple on Tuesday night. The scoreless draw was the fifth of the season, the most in program history, and the sixth shutout of the year, making the most for Penn's defense since 2013.

Set Piece Success
Penn's best offense this year has arguably come from the set piece, with one goal off a corner kick and two from free kicks. Junior captain Brandon Bartel has been a stalwart ingredient for the Quakers, setting up nearly all free and corner kick opportunities for the Red and Blue.

Scouting the Bears
Brown enters Saturday's match with an overall record of 7-6-1, but just a 1-3 mark in Ivy League play, only two points ahead of the Quakers. Against the Ancient Eight, the Bears have lost to Columbia, Princeton and Cornell, while picking up a double-overtime win against Harvard. Daniel Schiller leads the team with 10 points on three goals and four assists, while seven different players have recorded at least one goal on the year.
