PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania sprint football team continues its season with a rematch of last year's inaugural CSFL Championship Game as it travels to West Point to face Army. The Quakers are 2-1 this season and are coming off a bye week.
The Matchup
Army holds a 3-0 record entering Friday's game after victories against Chestnut Hill, Navy and Mansfield. The Black Knights defeated Penn, 10-0, in last season's inaugural CSFL Championship Game.
Previewing Penn
*Coach Bill Wagner is in his 49th season as Penn's sprint football head coach. Wagner has won five CSFL championships over his career.
*Penn leads the CSFL in rushing defense, allowing teams just 19 yards per game after holding Chestnut Hill to –20 yards rushing.
*The Quakers lead the CSFL in third-down defense, allowing just three conversions on 29 attempts.
*Klaus leads the CSFL in rushing with 361 yards and five touchdowns over three games. He rushed for a season-high 165 yards against Cornell on Sept. 21.
*Freshman Luca Curran leads the CSFL with four interceptions.
*Jenkins scored six total touchdowns (five passing, one rushing) in Penn's season opener against Mansfield on September 15 and registered 366 of the team's 569 yards. He was named CSFL Offensive Player of the Week for his standout performance.
*Freshman Brendan McCaffrey leads the Quakers in receiving with 15 catches for 246 yards and a touchdown.
*McCaffrey leads the CSFL in all-purpose yards, gaining 455 yards both rushing and receiving.
*Sam Smallzman is tied for the most tackles for a loss in the CSFL with 6.5.
*Freshman Ben Klaus kicked off his Penn career with three catches for 34 yards and two touchdowns.
*Coach Wagner named Console, Jenkins, Klaus, and Guiseppe Bevacqua as his team captains for the 2018 season.
*The Quakers welcome eight incoming freshmen to the sprint football roster in 2018.
