Men's Soccer Stifled at Home by Bowling Green

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Despite a much different style of opponent from Friday's season opener, the result was eerily similar for the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team, as the Quakers fell to Bowling Green at Rhodes Field by a score of 2-0. With the loss, Penn drops to 0-2 after its first weekend of play.

KEY MOMENTS
*Neither side provided a significant threat offensively in the early portion of the match, with teams trading possession near midfield. Bowling Green had the advantage early, eventually getting off its first shot in the 15th minute while Scott Forbes earned his first save of the game.

*From the onset, the match was physical on both sides, as a total of 20 fouls would end up in the final box score. The Falcons were whistled for eight fouls in the first half alone.

*Penn was unable to earn a shot in the first half of play, but the Quaker defense held strong, only allowing three shots from the Falcons.

*The second half began with the same lineup for the Red and Blue minus one change as Wes Maki replaced Dami Omitaomu

*BGSU attacked early after the break, earning a corner kick within the first two minutes and another shot and save from Forbes.

*The Falcons broke through in the scoring column in the 52nd minute, as Robert Miller netted a ball into the lower left 90 after a stolen ball in the midfield from Chris Brennan.

*It didn't take long for Bowling Green to double their lead, as the visitors capitalized on a corner kick with a header from Alexis Souahy to make it 2-0.

*Penn featured several offensive attacks near the end of the contest, none better than a one-on-one attempt from Sam Hefter that was gobbled up by BGSU's keeper, after which Hefter earned a straight red card to the bench.

PENN NOTES
*Penn featured the same starting XI as in the season-opener, all returners.

*Seven total players for the Quakers went the full 90 minutes.

*Forbes totaled a career-high three saves in the third start of his career.

*Hefter came off the bench to provide a spark offensively, shooting half of Penn's four shots, including one on goal.

*Bowling Green's offensive attack was best displayed in corner kicks, as the Falcons earned eight to Penn's one.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Quakers continue their four-match home streak with a contest next Sunday, Sept. 10 against Seton Hall, scheduled for 7 p.m.
