Qu Picks Up Fourth Clean Sheet In Scoreless Draw With Cornell

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team kept the pressure on the Cornell back line throughout the duration of Friday night's match, out-shooting the Big Red 28-10, but ultimately could not break through as the Quakers played to a 0-0 draw in their Ivy League home opener. Kitty Qu made one save on the night to register her fourth shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
*Penn had its first good look on net in the 18th minute Friday night, as Katharine Larson brought the ball in from the corner along the goal line and centered a pass to Paige Howard in front of the net, but Howard got it off the side of her foot as the ball sailed wide left.

*In the 37th minute, Emily Sands took a defender one-on-one at the top of the box and attempted a left-footed shot that was controlled by the keeper. Sands tied for the team-lead with seven total shots on the night.

*In the closing minutes of the first half, Howard had a great look at the far post from just inside the box that beat the Cornell keeper, but sailed just above the cross bar.

*Penn was awarded an indirect free kick following a Cornell (2-4-2, 0-1-1 Ivy) hand ball in the box in the 71st minute. Emma Loving started the play by tapping it to Sands who ripped a shot on goal that was met by a save, but Kristen Miller was there to clean up the deflection and one-timed it over the crossbar from eight yards out.

*Cornell's Shelby Wray had an opportunity to give the Big Red the lead late with a chance on the far post, but her shot glanced off the cross bar and bounced out of play as the Quakers escaped the threat.

*The two teams entered the first overtime period exchanging offensive attacks, led by Larson's left-footed shot on goal in the 96th minute that was met by a save. Larson was at the center of the action again just moments later at the end of the first overtime. After driving deep into Cornell's third, the freshman fired a shot for the far post and was denied by a leaping save to punch it over the cross bar.

*Kitty Qu recorded her fourth shutout of the season and extended her scoreless streak to 184:15 minutes in the process.

WHAT'S NEXT
Penn (2-5-3, 1-0-1 Ivy) faces a quick turnaround, beginning with a non-conference home match against Delaware State Monday at 7 p.m. The Quakers wrap up the week in Ivy League play Friday night at Columbia for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
