Field Hockey Continues Ivy Slate Saturday at No. 14 Harvard

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off of two wins last weekend, the University of Pennsylvania looks to bring down their second-straight ranked opponent when they travel to No. 14 Harvard on Saturday for the continuation of their Ivy League season. Game time is slated for 12 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass. and will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Network.

NEWS AND NOTES: HARVARD
*The Quakers and Crimson meet for the 41st time in series history with Harvard holding a slight lead in the all-time matchup, 21-17-2. Harvard comes into the contest as the defending Ivy League champions and currently holds a 7-2 record on the season while being ranked No. 14 in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll. Their losses on the season have come against Stanford and Connecticut.
 
*Harvard is ranked fifth in the nation with an average of 3.50 goals per game and is tops in the Ivy League in the category. Additionally, they own a 9.63 points per game average and 1.88 scoring margin over their opponents.
 
*Eight different players have recorded a goal for Harvard, with sophomore Bente van Vlijmen leading the team with six goals on the season.

NEWS AND NOTES: PENN
*The Quakers have won four of their five games since Sept. 10 and come into Saturday's contest with an RPI ranking of No. 25. Last weekend, Penn posted a 2-0 shutout win over Cornell to start Ivy play and came back the next day to defeat then-No. 22 American, 3-2, in overtime.
 
*Senior Alexa Hoover begins the week ranked 14th in goals per game (.88) and 17th in points per game (2.0) amongst her Division I counterparts. She's registered a point in the last six contests and has recorded goals in five out of the last six matches. Her 16 points place her second in the league.
 
*The NCAA released their second RPI standings of the season earlier this week and the Ivy League is well represented as one of the best conferences in the country. The Quakers clock in at No. 25 just behind Harvard (10), Princeton (14), and Cornell (24). As a league, the Ancient Eight has the third most teams in the top-25, behind only the ACC and Big Ten.
 
*Penn has set up one of their toughest schedules in program history for the 2017 slate that includes eight of their 17 matches against teams ranked in the top-25 of the NFHCA Coaches poll. North Carolina (#5), Syracuse (#7), Delaware (#8), Harvard (#14), Princeton (#16), Rutgers (#19), Iowa (#24), and American (#25) and have all received votes as of the Sept. 19 edition of the rankings.

*Several freshmen have seen significant game action in the beginning of their careers. Reese Vogel and Erin Quinn have cracked the starting lineup while six have seen game action through eight contests.  
 
*The Red and Blue have a bevy of home games for fans to attend this season with 10 matches slated to take place at Ellen Vagelos Field. *The Quakers return nine starters and 15 letterwinners from the 2016 squad and welcome seven freshmen to the roster in 2017. Additionally, three All-Ivy honorees are set to return to the pitch: senior Alexa Hoover (First Team), junior Paige Meily (Second Team), and sophomore Alexa Schneck (Second Team). Hoover and Schneck received NFHCA All-Region accolades while Hoover was also chosen as a Second Team All-American following a year where she became Penn's all-time leader in goals and points.

*Penn announced that a trio of seniors have been selected to captain the squad for the 2017 season: Alexa Hoover, Rachel Huang, and Jasmine Li. The Red and Blue senior class made up of Gina Guccione, Alexa Hoover, Jasmine Li, Rachel Huang, and Liz Mata have combined for a total of 86 goals and 38 assists
