Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. - The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team could not overcome George Mason's two second half goals Sunday, as the Quakers dropped their final match before beginning Ivy League play, 2-0. Penn and George Mason matched each other in the shot column on the day with 12, and the Quakers were led by
Katharine Larson,
Emma Loving and
Sasha Stephens with two apeice.
HOW IT HAPPENED
*The Quaker defense was able to hold its own to begin the match, holding the Patriots scoreless on four corner opportunties in the first 12 minutes.
*Penn started to get things going offensively in the 24th minute as
Erica Higa's corner made its way to the foot of Larson, but her shot on goal was blocked as the match remained scoreless.
*After entering in the 33rd minute,
Ellie Bryant had a go on goal but ended up just wide of the net.
Chase Geffert had an opportunity of her own following a Stephens corner, but her shot was sent just over the crossbar.
*Following halftime, the Patriots were fast to get on the board as Mason Callison found the back of the net in the 47th minute.
*
Jadyn Wilensky, Loving and Larson were able to fire shots on goal with the hopes of tying the match prior to the 70th minute, but all three were saved by George Mason goalkeeper Louisa Moser.
*Erin Mason Mitchell made it a two-goal advantage in the 83rd minute with a goal into the upper right 90 from ten yards out as George Mason went on to secure the 2-0 victory.
