FRISCO, Texas – On the heels of a successful career with the University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team, 2015 graduate Matt McMahon can add Major League Lacrosse champion to his already impressive list of playing accolades.
On Saturday night in Frisco, Texas, McMahon and the Ohio Machine claimed the 2017 MLL title with a 17-12 win over the Denver Outlaws with McMahon anchoring a stellar defensive unit. It marked the first time in the six-year history of the franchise that the club claimed the Steinfeld Trophy in front of a crowd of 7,543.
On Friday night prior to the contest, McMahon was named to the 2017 All-MLL team and was one of three finalists for MLL Defensive Player of the Year.
McMahon, a Glen Ridge, N.J. native, was a standout for the Quakers and concluded his collegiate career with 76 ground balls and 64 caused turnovers. In 2015, he was a Senior CLASS Award finalist, USILA Honorable Mention All-American, First Team All-Ivy, Second Team ECAC, and USILA Scholar All-America selection.
