PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing team raced against three ranked teams on Saturday on Lake Carnegie the Quakers squared off with No. 7 Princeton, No. 11 Iowa and No. 15 Syracuse.
In the Varsity 8 race, the Tigers were a 2.5-second victor as they were time in 6:15.1 over the 2,000-meter course. Syracuse was second, in 6:17.6, while Iowa was third in 6:21.1. Penn took fourth in 6:35.5.
Princeton (6:23.3) defeated Iowa (6:26.8), Syracuse (6:31.1) and Penn (6:33.8) in the Second Varsity 8.
In a tightly contested Varsity 4 race, Penn (7:09.4) to finish ahead of Syracuse (7:14.8) and give a good scare to first-place Princeton (7:06.4) and second-place Iowa (7:08.3).
Penn was fourth in the Second Varsity 4 race in 7:46.9, but defeated Princeton in a two-boat Third Varsity 4 race with a time of 7:50.8.
The races were Penn’s final tune-up before the Ivy League Championships, which will take place Sunday, May 14 on the Cooper River in nearby Cherry Hill, N.J.
