PHILADELPHIA - Flying high on a two-match win streak, the University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team is set to embark to the Sunshine State of Florida for four tough Spring Break matches. The Quakers will first take on Boston University on Monday, before battling FIU Wednesday. Penn will then change venues to face USF in Tampa on Saturday before wrapping up with Florida State on Sunday.
Penn (3-5) has won each of its past two matches by similar scores of 6-1. Most recently, the Quakers took down Drexel, winning the doubles point and courts 1-5 in singles. Freshman Ashley Zhu leads the team with five singles victories this spring, followed by Lina Qostal and Marta Kowalska, each owning four wins on the year in singles.
A QUICK LOOK AT BOSTON UNIVERSITY: The Terriers enter Monday's match with a record of 4-4 on the season, owning wins over Rhode Island, Binghamton, Navy and Holy Cross. BU and Penn have faced one similar opponent on the year in Maryland, as both teams fell to the Terps. Boston's No. 1 singles player Iryna Kostirko owns a 2-5 record on the season. The Quakers are seeking their first win over the Terriers, owning an 0-3 record in the all-time series with the last meeting coming in 2010.
A QUICK LOOK AT FIU: The Panters own an impressive 9-1 mark on the year and have moved up to No. 40 in the nation in the latest rankings from the ITA. FIU's only loss on the year came to No. 1 Florida and the Panthers have won five of their 10 matches in shutout fashion. Penn owns a 2-1 all-time record against FIU, defeating the Panthers most recently in 2015. FIU's top singles player Andrea Lazaro is 7-0 on the year and ranked 34th in the nation.
A QUICK LOOK AT SOUTH FLORIDA: The Bulls currently sit with a 5-5 record on the year and are set to battle Penn State prior to their match with the Red and Blue. South Florida's top singles competitor Ana Roman owns a 7-3 record on the season. Penn is 0-1 all-time against USF with the only match coming in 1998.
A QUICK LOOK AT FLORIDA STATE: The Seminoles are 8-4 to-date this season, with a match against Illinois slated prior to facing Penn on Sunday. FSU has defeated one ranked opponent so far this year in No. 26 NC State. Gabriela Casteneda owns the top spot in singles this season for the Seminoles with a 3-3 record on the year. Sunday's match will be the first in program history between Penn and FSU.
