PHILADELPHIA – Seven different goal scorers powered No. 12 Penn past Georgetown, 14-6, at Franklin Field.
The Quakers improved to 5-1 with the win, while Georgetown fell to 2-5.
Emily Rogers-Healion had a career-high five points, scoring twice and adding three assists to lead the Quakers.
Alex Condon had four goals, giving her 19 through six games.
Penn had a decisive shot advantage in the game, outshooting the Hoyas, 36-15. When called upon,
Britt Brown finished with seven saves for the Quakers.
Katy Junior was a force on defense for the Red and Blue, finishing the game with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. As a defensive unit, Penn had 21 ground balls – with
Megan Kelly and
Chelsea Kibler each picking up four.
Stefan had a good day on the draw circle, winning a game-high five. Barry added three and Cummings won two to give Penn a 13-9 edge on the circle.
How It Happened…
• The Quakers trailed just once in the game – for a total of 23 seconds after Georgetown scored the first goal 3:24 into the game.
• Corcoran answered quickly for the Quakers, taking a Rogers-Healion pass and finishing to tie the game just 3:47 in.
• Starting with Corcoran's goal, Penn would score seven of the next eight goals to close out the first half.
• Rogers-Healion and Barry would score twice in a span of 38 seconds to give Penn a 3-1 lead. Rogers-Healion went first with a free position goal, and Barry would follow with a slick dodge by a defender.
•After Georgia Tunney scored the second of her four goals to cut Penn's lead to one, the Quakers scored the four final goals of the first half to take a 7-2 lead into the break.
•
Alex Condon scored twice in that run, her two goals sandwiched between scores from Rogers-Healion and Cummings.
• Condon's first goal came off a pass from Rosenzweig, Condon taking this dish and firing top corner with 7:53 left in the first half.
• Her second goal was the end result of a nice-designed sequence with Barry which saw the freshman draw defenders and thread a pass to an open Condon for the goal and a 6-2 Penn lead with 4:32 left first half.
• Cummings would close the first half with a nice cut from behind the net, running toward a Rogers-Healion pass which she deposited to give Penn a 7-2 lead at the break.
• The Hoyas would score the first goal of the second half, but Penn had an answer for every rally.
• Rosenzweig scored twice 0:11 apart after the Hoyas opened the second half, giving Penn a 9-3 lead with 19:02 to play.
• Georgetown would score twice to climb within four with 16:20 to play, but Penn scored five of the final six goals to pull away.
• Condon scored twice down the stretch, joined by Cummings, Stefan and Barry on the scoreboard.
The Red and Blue are off until March 18 when Penn returns to Franklin Field for Alumni Day against Duke at 12 p.m.
The Quakers will celebrate the 10th reunion of the 2007 squad which on the Ivy League championship and reached the Final Four.
