Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Falls to No. 14 Princeton, 2-1

PHILADELPHIA – An early goal just 3:33 into the contest wouldn't be enough to overcome No. 14 Princeton (11-6, 7-0) as the University of Pennsylvania field hockey team (9-8, 4-3) fell in their final game of the 2017 season, 2-1, on Saturday.

The match served as the final collegiate game for Alexa Hoover, Jasmine Li, Rachel Huang, Gina Guccione, and Liz Mata as part of the Class of 2018 and the quintet were honored in a ceremony recognizing their careers prior to the start of the contest.

True to form and in celebration of the day, Alexa Hoover gave the Quakers just the quick start Penn was hoping for. The Red and Blue earned an early corner and Hoover nailed in a shot from the right of the circle in the fourth minute to take the 1-0 lead. Rachel Huang and Paige Meily were credited with assists on the effort as part of the corner battery.

The Quakers held that advantage into halftime as they kept the Princeton attack at bay, but the Tigers notched the equalizer just 2:26 into the second half off a Clara Roth score from an end line drive.
The visitors had numerous chances in the second half and notched 10 penalty corners in the frame. They connected for the game-winner at the 57:57 mark when Sophia Tornetta capitalized off one of those opportunities via assists from her sister, Julianna, and Roth to take the 2-1 lead.

With 4:13 remaining, the Quakers pulled Rosati from net to add an extra field player for additional offense, but the Red and Blue couldn't connect to send the contest into extra minutes.

Penn finishes the season with a 9-8 overall record and 4-3 mark in Ivy League contests. The Class of 2018 earned 41 victories during their collegiate careers, tied for second all-time in program history.
